Sprues or injection sites. You need a spot where the cast material enters and where it's exiting to, and you use the part that was made in-between.

It might also help with grasping the hot piece as it comes out of the press.

Call me crazy, but I think that circle part may be a spare tire support. If you look at the casting where the outer diameter of the tire would be it seems circular too. That’s really the only thing that makes sense to me.

CT comes with an espresso machine and now with frying pan for eggs. Just need to locate the toaster.

here’s where that is headed - it’s a forming piece of the casting that is cut off and thrown in the trash

covered already, earlier in thread

... thrown in the trash back in the smelter for recycling.

I am foreseeing the tesla of the future coming off the assembly line as these rough castings with laser engraved circuitry on the exterior.

Probably rejects or tests. Not intended to be used on a vehicle. I'll bet they just melt down the material and reuse it.
Probably, but in the ramp up before they began uses them at Fremont on the Model Y, they literally ringed the factory with piles of them. Just rows upon rows of stacks that eventually they put into racks, and then into the factory. That was done on a lesser scale for the Model Y in Austin.
