Detailed comparison of the 40/20/40 split-bench w/column shifter vs the full center console with all-new electronic console shifter on the 2022 Refreshed Silverado 1500!
EDIT: NEW INFORMATION NOT IN VIDEO ...These tester trucks do not have the rear seat middle fold-out armrest with cupholders but they offer that in an upgraded package called the "Up-Level Rear Seat with Storage Package" that gives you the left and right storage cubby and a fold-out center armrest with two BONUS cupholders in the rear seat! This package is standard on the LTZ and up and optional on the other trims. So depending on what trim and package you get you have the option to get two more cupholders!

There is no way I want to cram 3 large guys in the front of my CT. All I need is 5 seats - with 3 in the rear. Actually the rear will have an Orvis dog hammock for my GSD's. The CT, being electric, can run the AC in the summer so I don't have to worry about my buddies getting heat stroke while I run into the store. It is supposed to hit 108 this weekend in Reno. Sure wish I had my CT NOW! Elon, are you listening? I have to leave my buddies at home because you are taking your not-so-sweet time.

Hello friend. Just wanted to let you know, there are, literally, billions of other people on this planet. I'm glad you don't want this, but there are plenty of us who actually do want it, not to mention most of the world is under 5'9", so it's not that big a deal.

I think the bench seat should be an option. While waiting for CT, my Silverado has gotten old and is wearing out. I looked into replacing it with a Tahoe so I would have a SUV to go with my CT truck. However, the Tahoe ONLY comes with 3 rows of seats. You cannot delete that 3rd row. Yes, the seat folds down, but the makes the headroom in back too low for my GSD's. They scrape the ceiling and the headliner gets full of black hair that does not vacuum out easily. Police K-9 Tahoes have no 3rd row seat, but I cannot order that model because I am not law enforcement. So, Chevy lost out on a customer! I hope Tesla does not follow the Chevy path.

Came here to say this. Plenty of families would love it. I personally am a family of 4 but would like a front bench for if anyone else ever wants to ride with us.

Car seats eat the whole rear

I’ve been there, so I understand. I think the key here is OPTIONS, just like the X and the Y. For me, I’d be happy with just two really cool seats in both front AND back for a max of 4! Doubling my current seat count! But that’s me and it ain’t everyone else. Maybe there could be the options…

Bench seats were fine when zero-to-sixty times were in the high 20's and cornering was a low-speed maneuver. The CT's performance necessitates a firm seat.

Yep, it is not just about fitting 6 huge guys in the truck, not just about immediate families that only have 3 children riding ( no other extended family or friends/teammates of children).
Even Elon is telling people to have more children!!!

In full-size pickup truck's primary markets (US. Mexico, Canada, Australia, South America) there are many families that are composed of riders of various sizes and needing 6 seating positions is very common in mixed groups like extended families or a smaller immediate family with additional passengers (friends/teammates of children).

Children of various ages & sizes. Adults of various sizes.
Adults in extended family that do not have licenses who could not drive a 2nd vehicle even if you ignored the huge cost increase of using two vehicles for same trip instead of one.

The middle seat in front row could easily be enough room for a child. Not having air bag is not even an issue because front air bags are only designed for adults and are supposed to be turned off for children.

Shiny vinyl bench seat on a 0.9g turn… you better really like the guy in the middle!

I don't have a dog in this fight (well, I have a dog) but I should think that whoever wants the middle front seat is thinking about the monitor right in front of it. What if you accelerated or braked hard and your passenger flew into the monitor. That might not be pretty. Of course, if there is lots of space in front of their legs then it might be a moot point (assuming they are wearing a restraint) but we just don't have that information yet.

Most of the full-size pickups and SUVs that have front bench seats as option also came standard with touchscreens and climate controls in center of dash. All the F-150, Ram 1500/2500, Silverado 1500, Yukon SUVs that I saw had large touchscreens in center of dash.

The center seats are still required to have seatbelts and the shorter passengers that might sit in front middle position should not hit dash.

You could still run into something after 20 seconds.
