Had my 2nd negative reaction yesterday - was driving the Cybertruck past a couple of people walking a dog. It was a good looking dog and I smiled at them. One of the guys lost it, gave me the finger, and started *screaming* insults at me - just going off the deep end. It's a very strange way to react to a *vehicle*!

I smiled bigger and gave a friendly wave and that seemed to make him even more angry.

Unfortunately, I was in a hurry, otherwise I would have looped back and tried to speak with him to try to get some understanding of the rage. It just completely doesn't compute for me that someone would see a vehicle and flip into a rage. So strange. Does Cybertruck tilt the NPCs on sight?

I’m also a criminal defense attorney and would add that displaying a handgun in that split moment in time, with emotions running hot, invites review by overzealous prosecutors to determine if charges should be brought against the gun weilding person. Especially if there isn’t anyone else with a weapon. The best way to avoid charges is to circumvent behavior that could be Interpretted as criminal conduct.

My brother in Christ, do you realize that self-defense law is much more complicated than described? And that your statement posted to your online account could be evidence that a future prosecutor might be permitted by a trial judge to present to a jury in furtherance of arguments of premeditation if in fact you were to shoot and kill someone in the future, or at least to prove indifference or recklessness?
Yeah, as a guy who does admin/civil that wouldn’t immediately occur to me. But, of course that kind of discovery would come back to bite these Rambo/He-man types! This is why it’s a mistake to ignore expertise and experience.

Some of it’s just puffery, some of it is these guys being bamboozled by what they’re hearing in their bubbles and it’s not good.

Mad world. Went on a mountain bike ride today. Passed a guy on trail without incident. Guy was apparently waiting at the trailhead just so he could absolutely freak out about the cybertruck. As I pulled up he said let me tell you something. He just started yelling with pure rage about the truck. Then started into me. Losing his mind. I mean real red faced anger. This was S. Utah. He was driving a lifted f350 diesel. Not an Elon thing. Came at me with fists balled and violent intentions. Having been a public defender for decades, this type of thing is literally just another day at the office for me. Spent a lot of time with very troubled souls. I felt great pity for this person and his challenges. So much hate and anger. Tried to help him past it with all the love and understanding I could muster. I’ve got an Irish temper myself. I’ve been known to lose it from time to time. Nobody is perfect. He eventually went back to his truck still furiously screaming. It was very bizarre. I gotta say, Cybertruck or no Cybertruck, t’s wild times out there. Feels like a bloody tinderbox. The internet is making everyone insane. Glad I’m retired and don’t have to give a shit. Be kind to each other.

Edit: This was a very strange outlier event. My experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
I feel like I'm missing out because I haven't gotten any rage in almost a year! Maybe I should wrap "Heil Musk" on the truck!

In Texas they all just wave, at least according to BillyBob, aka Tommy Norris, on the TV show "Landman".

I would like to point out, I am licensed to carry concealed in this state. [Rebecca Falcone]

I’d like to point out, Rebecca, that you don’t need a license to carry concealed in this state. That’s why we all wave at each other when we’re driving. Because everybody’s f***ing armed. [Tommy Norris]

I've had mine for about 5 weeks. Overwhelmingly, the response people have to it is positive - smiles, selfies, thumbs up, honest questions and curiosity, and wide eyed wonder. There's been hundreds and hundreds of such instances. So far, I've had 2 bad reactions. It equates to maybe 0.01%. I'm mostly amused and curious when that happens. I want to understand it, and I'll engage if I'm able (wasn't able to in either occasion).

My wife, on the other hand, is mortified. She told me this morning she doesn't want to drive it because she's so upset by the idea of encountering someone raging against the truck and maybe getting violent. She's going to try to push through it. I reminded her she'll be in a bullet proof vehicle.

I never had anything close to that but only a few fingers and swerves towards the truck while driving. All of them were also in large Ford or GM trucks that were lifted up. Seems like they make their truck like that for attention and the Cybertruck gets more attention so it upsets them. I guess they may also hate EVs. I just ignored them.
