I just heard today that our reservation numbers are somewhat irrelevant and the place in line depends primarily on region, affiliation with Tesla, or if you are a current Tesla vehicle owner. I'm an early reservation holder but have never owned a Tesla. Does this mean my early RN (112806) is meaningless? I sure hope not, as I am a serious buyer fullly prepared to purchase the Foundation Series if I receive the invitation. It's quite frustrating, especially since so many are passing on the invitation.

I feel for you and understand your frustration. I was there myself. I’d be cautious of anyone saying they know how the decision to offer invites are made. In this forum are folks who have never owned anything Tesla who were offered an invite. I won’t pretend I know how they do it but I highly doubt they invest any amount of time or money into figuring out who has stock, cars, solar or power walls to determine if they are worthy of a FS. Being that we all somewhat enjoy Tesla products, there’s a great likelihood that most folks here own something Tesla. The bottom line is do you have $100k-$120k. Tesla is a business that’s loyal to the all mighty dollar.

I think it's most likely that the delivery event and few December deliveries were selected with great bias (mostly towards being Tesla employees), but there's pretty much no other "official" information to go off. I do seriously doubt that they have bias against potential new owners, but they are clearly doing a controlled rollout that focuses currently on Austin, TX; assuming LA and SF starts in January, and they slowly expand from there.

I really think it is mostly about location at the moment. They seem to be prioritizing customers that are near major service centers. Someone in FL who got an early invite posted today that he got a call from Tesla and was told he should not expect delivery until the fall. Just my guess of course, but the data seems to fit.

The process is bizarre. I leased a M3 in March, so I guess that makes me an owner. Live in California. Booked immediately in Nov. 2019… 11274xxx Tri Motor FSD, and 11277xxx Dual Motor FSD. I got invited to configure the second reservation even though it’s further back in line

I never suggested that loyalty shouldn't be rewarded. Since I pre-ordered a Tesla, I, too am a Tesla customer. If the reservation was $1000 instead of $100, I still would have paid it. If reservations aren't prioritized, what's the point of having a reservation?

I read the other responses and we should probably pin a response that says that no one knows the algorithm Tesla is using to select who to invite.

That said, Tesla itself said that early deliveries will be made to CA and TX.

We also know that only the illuminati and employees have received trucks. We know that, for past vehicle deliveries, geography has played a part. In isolated cases (or periods of time) in the past Tesla has used other factors such as whether FSD was ordered, or what trim was ordered, to determine ordering.

What has become clear, other than the fact that we do not know the algorithm, is that Tesla is happy to change the algorithm as it chooses, so all we can really do is sit back and watch it all unfold (in a nervous way in my case) :)

So, is RN11281xxxx an early reservation order?

That doesn't sound right. Almost all orders are below 1281*. So, obviously the reservation number matters.

That doesn't mean thats the only criteria. They have additional criteria like geography (and as you say may be prior ownership) etc.
