I have a non FS AWD coming and want to install a charger before delivery.

My local power company (FPL) has an unlimited off peak charging option for $31 or $38 per month, but they provide their own charger.
I don't want to drop the money on a Powershare if I decide to go with the power company solution.

My question, is If I get a universal wall charger, do you know if I can buy just the Powershare?
I can't put up solar panel (HOA) so power wall is not an option

I tried calling the the SC but they were pretty useless and I can't find a number to call Tesla directly

What's the objective? Powershare is 3 components, the Universal Wall Connector ($550), the Powershare Gateway ($2,500 in a bundle that includes the wall connector) and the Cybertruck. If the goal is to provide backup power for your house in the event of an outage, then Powershare is probably the way to go. I say probably, because people's install costs vary widely and some have instead opted to go with a generator interlock instead.

If you only care about charging, the FPL option may be fine, if you want to provide backup power to your house, then you'll want to consider Powershare or generator interlock options.

Also, for what it's worth, you don't need solar to benefit from load-shifting with Powerwall.

You can put up solar despite any HOA limits. It’s law - look up “right to install”.

I have my gateway and two universal wall chargers in boxes. The installers are coming next week to put up 50 solar panels, install the two Tesla chargers, the gateway, and one PowerWall. We initially designed it without the PowerWall and with two Tesla inverters. We later decided to use the PowerWall, which integrates everything and eliminates the need for the inverters, so a bit more expensive but a reasonable deal all around, and we’ll have self-managed (shared) charging for the new MY and CT.

Yes, you can purchase the gateway separately. I’m buying a second for our Florida place.

We don’t have time-of-day rates in Maryland, and fairly low per-kWh rates, so it typically doesn’t make sense to use a PowerWall. However, having a full Tesla environment running on the Tesla app for everything is a huge benefit. I side benefit is that the PowerWall will serve as a backup generator for the Maryland house for the winter, when we and the vehicles are at the Florida place. Another benefit is that the Solar panels go straight to the PowerWall, behind the gateway, which allows the solar panels to charge the vehicles/batteries when the grid is down. Normally solar panels must be shut down when the grid is off, but Tesla figured a way to put it all on the “inside” of the main switch. The system also eliminates the need for a separate “critical loads” panel when running in generator mode.

The Tesla system is seamless, fully integrated, and just works. This is my fifth solar panel installation, and by far the cheapest and easiest. Interestingly, I am NOT using Tesla for this installation because their quote, which was financially competitive, required allowing them to retain the Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs). Most solar/renewable buyers would have no idea what this means, but it is very meaningful. We make about $14k/yr selling the SRECs through a broker. The SERCS from our new system now being in stalled will generate about $2,300 per year in cash credits - every year. Tesla’s mandatory contract language required us to sell them that future cash flow for $3,500. It si ridiculous, so I;ve opened a case with teh Maryland Attorney General for Tesla’s bad business practice that effective takes advantage of new consumers who don’t;t understand SRECs. We are therefore using a Tesla-certified contractor instead of direct Tesla contract.

i don’t mind buying the universal but don’t want to end up with 2 or spending the extra money when the standard will work fine
I wish there a a person I could speak with at tesla for the specific details

thank you for the reply

Yes, ultimately the goal would be to charge the house in case of outage.
I'm researching the cost of installation, depending on pricing it may not be worth as you stated.
As far as the FPL option, there are, in my mind, a few negatives that will depend on my monthly use to determine if it sensible or not.

I also want to have a charger in place for when the truck arrives.

I know, I'm like an eager child. I just want it all by yesterday ;)

My install was a bit under $2,400 and the $2,500 for the hardware was covered by the voucher I got. It's the easiest install, basically backs up one of my two 200A panels. Works great.

The gateway is listed as $2,500 and includes the wall connector as a free add-on. I don't think there's a cheaper way to buy it separately, but you could probably turn around and sell the unopened wall connector pretty easily.

The answer is yes, but not directly from Tesla. It’s also a bit cheaper to buy the bundle directly from Tesla

If you already have the UWC you may purchase the 3V gateway without the UWC from a local certified Tesla powershare installer.

note: they will need to run a new RS-485 cable connecting your UWC and your gateway.

can find local certified installers at https://www.tesla.com/support/certified-installers

Not in Kentucky.. we don't have such protections.

Solar panels are not part of the structural integrity of the roof, so the only "workaround" is to go with Tesla Solar Roof.

I can't wait to move out of this HOA.....

You call call the Kentucky DoE and ask them if there are any laws being considered to protect homeowners from HOAs.

There is also a chance you can find protection laws for installing emergency backup power or generation that would supercede their BS restrictions. ADA comes to mind.

Just had Tesla pull the rug out from under me on my solar install. Was getting a 29 kW system and they just told me that because they think that they will break my tiles that I would have to replace my roof with shingles first before they install. 100% nonstarter!! Very upset!

FYI, since you're getting Powerwall, you can just get the Wall Connector (gen 3) for PowerShare. You don’t need the Universal Wall Connector (which is about $100 more).

Source: directly from Tesla’s PowerShare documentation.

One Universal wall connector came with the Model Y I’m picking up next week and the Cybertruck that I picked up two weeks ago. No choice, so they’re on the shelf awaiting installation.

Ever heard about interlock switch. Use CT as a portable generator....Dig deeper & find out how amazing this spaceship is..then all you need is a Tesla charger to be installed $550 & installation. Coming from 2 Tesla's to Rivian back to CT...I recommend strongly to stick with Tesla products for minimal problems!!!

Great to hear you came back to Tesla. Out of curiosity, which Rivian and what were the problems? Assume the issues are why you came back to Tesla…

Overall great truck R1T vin 22k. 23k miles. Software & app looks great but far from Tesla. Replaced Bluetooth modules in doorhandles & air compressor on 1st service appointment. Just not on pace with Tesla innovation. Reading a lot on there gen2 R1T and R1S in forums which seems to regress vs progress. Foreseeing Rivian not to become profitable & SC's unable to handle flow of repairs. The CT is going to be very successful as soon as people get to experience it. Just showed it (incl lightshow) to my lawn crew contractor and all 3 want one.
Future is bright. FSD and ability to plug in as a generator (9.6kw from bed) is the 3 in 1 you get vs just a truck. (4 for 1 if robotaxi for us comes available next year)
