It's not "120 ohm" wire, so Tesla said it may work but may stop at any time. This makes no sense to me.

But this electrician did 6 other installs, many in Jackson Wyoming. If those installs stop working, there's going to be some very upset, very rich, people complaining.
RS485 wants twisted pair cable, with 120 ohm impedance due to higher data rate communication. Normal 4 wire straight cable isn't that.
Although, if it's working it will *probably* keep doing so...

Not a "Tesla Approved" electrician. I think they are referred to as "Certified". Any good electrician can install the Gateway and Universal Wall Charger. They hook up whole home backup Generacs and transfer switches all of the time. Why would I choose to use Qmerit and their certified electrical company 2 hours away and pay over $2500 more?
I agree with you. But I thought we had to do that? Had to wait for QMERIT to send me an email and send me their electrician they worked with. I wish I can just use my own. I thought Tesla weren't turning on the feature if you didnt use QMERIT. The reason why I am asking, because thats good.

I believe you still need to go through Qmerit to get the job quoted and approved by one of the Tesla Certified Electricians. Then you can use whoever you want.

Yeah, officially called “Tesla Certified Installers”.

https://www.tesla.com/support/certified-installers

The price gouges on several of these quotes is crazy. I got stuck in the Qmerit cycle a bit and was not happy with their customer service so I went back to the certified installer list and got a couple more quotes on my own again. Moved forward with one of them instead.

Sounds like QMerit has about a 13% markup from what I’ve heard. I’d get a quote, decline it, then they’d have another electrician quote and it came in higher. I reached out to them to make sure they knew i wasn’t looking to find who could provide the highest quote. They suggested I reach out to the electrician directly. The Qmerit funnel just hikes the price, provides poor service, and delays the process as far as I’m concerned.

Yes, Tesla had previously activated it (received the Discover PowerShare in the app a few days after install/commissioning). Something was apparently wrong with the registration though, all we did was a factory reset on the Gateway, a reset on the Wall Connector, go back through the registration process and everything was working.

I have an AWD so I didn’t have the $4K for install, not sure how difficult it is to have that processed. Currently install of PowerShare is stating this, I think it was this same page that not to long ago stated “a Certified Installer, like Qmerit).

The Tesla guy did say cat 5/6 will not work. This is very specific.

I'm not going to pay a cent to qmerit. They can just f right off. I might give the installer a couple grand off this thing gets working.

"2025" for those of us with Powerwalls kinda sucks. It's suitably vague in Tesla-speak to mean it could be a year (or more) off.
This is ridiculous. They literally just changed the "in late 2024" to later in 2025. Does that mean late 2025 at best? Sheesh! Very deceptive practice.

I just got mine installed today for $3300. Through QMerit. First bid was $5500 and I told them to look at it again. It was seriously 4 hours of work for 2 guys. Could easily be a $900-$1200 job. I just wanted it done TBH. Now I’ll be waiting on how long it actually is before it goes live and on the app.

No. Tesla support told me any certified installer. Called the one a state away. 2k including him coming out. Powerahare finally shipped after 4 weeks.

Got mine installed today through Smart Charge America in N. Dallas. About $3k, same as 2 other installers' quotes. I just back up the whole panel, so it only took him maybe 5 hours to install. Spent 3 hours waiting for the elec. company reconnection.
Qmerit wouldn't back up the whole main panel and was quoting over $7k

Tesla was finally supposed to come back out and update the bad firmware that caused the hammering on the house and caused them to send out electricians and disconnect everyone that evening. Unfortunately when they tried their new build last week it bricked the charger for someone and they will have to update again at a later point.

Any updates on Powershare + Backup Switch working? The public Powershare website still says it isn't supported. I'm with Southern California Edison who recently approved the Backup Switch.

I'm looking to have Powershare + Backup Switch installed on my house that has existing Tesla Solar. Does anyone else have this config working?
