Definitely strikes me as a bad decision to go "full send" expecting thick grass/straw to offer the same opportunity to get loose as gravel. Followed by a cat-like attempt to pass it off as no big deal on their part (as when my cat accidentally slides off the couch then acts all casual about it).

Friction clearly disagreed with whatever he was attempting to do. He was trying to make the truck do something physics clearly disagreed with.

How much lateral speed do you think is required to send a bottom-heavy vehicle into a 270° roll?
A lot. At least, Teslas have been shown to not roll easily. Perhaps the Rivian, especially if the suspension is set high, is more prone to roll. Something for Tesla to consider vis-a-vis the Cybertruck.

The pictures make it look like it just fell on its side and stayed there. It might just be surface damage.
Owner commentary in the article says it did a 270. Driver Side, roof, ended on passenger side.

I’ve seen a Model X roll almost onto the roof, then right itself like a weeble wobble and land on it’s feet.

Idc who you are.. vehicles don't just randomly decide to roll over..

I will chalk this one down as user error.
No, but some vehicles are much more prone to it than others.

A case study of 1 doesn’t say a whole lot so not suggesting the Rivian is super sketchy, but I was a little bit surprised given the low center of gravity.

IIHS just rated this truck as best ever tested and noted low rollover risk. This guy is searching for pitty while simultaneously hiding from his insurance company

Yeah… I did not post this thread to trash Rivian. It was kind of surprising to me that it happened at all.

Just thought it was interesting.

I have seen videos of owners doing crazy sharp turns with these things Off-road. Either this was on a slope we can’t see on the photo or suspension had a problem on one side.

I am thinking @Crissa put him up to this to make her point about extra mass being the enemy.

I can imagine doing donuts on the lawn, getting the truck sideways, and dropping a tire in a hole would do it. In fact seems like the most likely explanation. I’ve done similar stunts in my Tundra in the snow… without the rollover. I picked a flat place with little traction to do it.

How many miles of range do you suppose you lose by adding bull horns to the car?

Exactly. One of the reasons I got off the Rivian bandwagon was that, the thing is made for doing stupid stuff and I just can’t see myself paying that much money for something and trashing it. Even if I walk away from the accident, I am not sure if I can recover from messing up my brand new toy emotionally.

Even switching from my rusted 20 year old truck to a base F150 at half the price of Rivian is tough for me. The piece of mind that comes with driving something crappy is priceless. Everyone else on the road is more afraid of me than I am afraid of them. I can park in the tightest spot in the parking lot right in front. I was hit in the back while driving that truck by a seemingly penniless student once and had no problem let him go. Even if I had unlimited disposable income, I would have problem doing some of the stuff these people do with their rides.

There are so many ways to get your adrenaline fix. I don’t know why people need to pick the most costly and least efficient.

It’s funny because many consider the Cybertruck to be the perfect truck for doing stupid stuff.

It was the thing Munro thought Cybertruck will do much better than the F150 or the Rivian.
