With the 4' bed the rivian is not really a truck for most peoples needs - but enjoy!

Drew Baglino: Manufacturing is hard and hard problems are fun to solve.

I’m sure he was mumbling that to himself during the 2 years after the original Model S launch date and the actual start of deliveries. Or similarly the 18 months late on the Model X… or the 12 months late (est) for the Cybertruck. Or “Production Hell” starting up the Model 3.

Drew on month 11 after missed deadline: “This is sooo fucking fun I could shit myself”

When golfers go to hell, they get a hole-in-one on every shot.

Well, I’ve been swayed towards the rivian and will be giving up my CT plans. Wondering if anyone here has an early rivian reservation they’d be willing to sell?
Hi
What does Rivian have a owners club? May be great to go there and talk about your fine decision. First real world cast of revenge battery life while towing is about 120 miles which would give me a bit of range anxiety.

That is the issue, when can you get an Alternative to the CT? Whether that is the Rivian or the Ford Lightning, etc.

I have standing orders for all 3 trucks....the Rivian maybe available to me in the late Spring. The Ford late Summer? And the CyberTruck is a totally unknown.

How long does one wait?

Good luck. Assuming you have a reservation for a CT and hopefully for you it is an early reservation, I would not let it go to waste. With potential EV tax credits and the absolutely mind numbing backlog of trucks that are on preorder you may want to plan on purchasing both and flipping one for a hefty sum or at least help to pay for the finder fee to get the original persons Rivian reservation. Due note that you will not be eligible for any tax incentives on the Rivian purchasing it from the original reservation holder due to it not meeting the requirements. If money is no object disregard any advise or guidance. Enjoy whatever EV you end up with.
He has plenty of time (before his name comes up for the Cybertruck).
At the moment, Tesla's prediction is they will ramp up production beginning in 2023. Although unless you have a low reservation # for the CT, you are probably looking at 2024 before he can get it. It could be as much as 3 years away. Buy something now, and sell it when the Cybertruck finally comes out might be a fine strategy.

In the current market?

If you like the Rivian, I’d say buy it. When the Ford and the Cybertruck become available you can likely sell the Rivian at a small loss and upgrade. Heck current market you might make a profit.

The only risk with the Rivian is resale value is a big unknown. Seems like you should be fine, but you never know.

I want to be the first to market with the rear window decals with a little boy pissing on Rivian and the same on Cybertruck. I could make enough to pay for my tri-motor CT!

Hmmm.. urinating on an electric truck ..throw in the word "Lightning" and I see some shocking humor in there somewhere.

More range is almost always better. It means you stop less often and for less time. Yes, you still need bathroom breaks, but you can plug in, use the facilities, and leave when you want instead of waiting 10-20 minutes for enough charge to get home.

Of course if you are looking at 300 miles range, the dual motor Cybertruck is $20,000 less than the base Rivian (no idea on options prices so assume they are equal for the moment).

But of course if you are 100% convinced that the Cybertruck dual motor and tri motor configs are both going up in price by $20,000 as some in this conversation are, then the Cybertruck and the Rivian are equally overpriced and neither make sense.
I think Tesla will honor pricing with the exception of the 4WS upgrade. I am not sure if they can offer the truck without it but if so, they will build the 4ws first and let people pay the upgrade price to get their truck a year or 2 earlier than otherwise.

Yah - more range is always better , unless weight and cost are a factor. The RS1 will be very competitive with the X. I haven't seen if it will have jump seats to make 7, but 4x4 performance should be superior.

One of my close friends works for the COO of Rivian, and I have an early CT order. IMHO, Rivian isn't a truck. It is a mid-size truck. The bed is comparable to a Ford Ranger or Jeep Gladiator. Sure, Rivian calls it a truck, alas, it isn't a full size truck.

If you are / want to travel with your Rivian, you will be forlorn, because their charging network is going to take 2+ years to build out. Moreover, the battery tech of the Rivian is already obsolete. You will see that it will not charge as fast as the CT.

Rivian was all about saying we are delivering in 2021....well as we know, that is just to Rivian employees and they are doing QA on them. Real Customer orders are delayed until March 2022. Not sure where those 5 or 6 you saw are going.
Yeah, but Tesla doesn't have a Cybertruck yet.

I hope they can build 100,000 Cybertrucks in 2023 (I doubt more than a handful in 2022), and then really ramp in 2024 so many of us can get our CTs.

I think the X is quite a bit different from the R1S. I do wish they would bring pricing on the X down into something reasonable. I kind of think they are going to keep X pricing high until they do a redesign or demand slacks off a bunch.

No.

For me Tesla is about saving the earth from climate destruction! Rivan seems to be about taking advantage of the situation to make a buck. No thanks. Good for them, but no thanks Mr. co_hand_guy.

Just like Space-X is about possibly saving the human species with a colony on Mars as a fallback, but while Mr. Amazon seems to be more about Disney-Land style joy rides just to have fun in space.

I won't, in any way, be supporting this Amazon funded nonsense any more than I absolutely have to.

To boot, I think the CT is a boy or masculine, and the Riv is a girl or feminie. I for one, am not going to be driving a sissy, girl truck when there's a tougher, bad ass looking truck out there.

So you rather ride in a man than ride in a woman? My truck will be a tough as nails girl.
