In the category of "f*ck around n' find out"

MDR's current pinned tweet (with a groveling parenthetical at the end) would appear to confirm it

Personally, I wouldn't say Tesla would ban him merely for disclosing some information given to him by an employee at the Investor Day event.

Instead, Tesla would ban him for doing that but then also making it his entire personality, dubbing himself the 'Cybertruck Whisperer,' interviewing on high-profile YouTube channels as some 'insider,' and then proceeding to stalk and comment on every Musk tweet since.

MDR had a platform because other YouTubers gave him a platform. If, after the Investor Day fiasco, everyone stopped paying attention to him (and he actually got the message and changed his tune), this might not be happening. That said, those who follow him and continue to publish what he says should also be censured. That would eliminate a few well-known YouTubers that have been criticized for doing so.

There is a larger question going on here about so-called influencers (or any media ‘source’) doing due diligence on their information sources. One can always say “there is a rumor going around” and not disclose the source, and then make the claim that they only shared the rumor and that we are responsible for what we believe and otherwise. Tesla, if this action is true, hasn’t necessarily gone after the source but after the middle man, and not the people that repost him. Maybe Tesla should set standards for which media sources will be able to attend their events and enforce those standards with prejudice.
