Some images after a dish soap wash. Cybertruck was driven 2 days in rain.

I wonder if the old baking soda with a cloth or toothbrush trick works on that, that's what I've used on stainless steel appliances when they get those rust spots. Baking soda is not abrasive so it should not damage the stainless steel

Lets be real for a second, 100k for a truck and this is what I need to worry about and potentially do? Doesnt seem right to me

You've been fooled!

Why would you worry? What are you afraid of? Made up problems can be scary, right?

These are the normally available grades of Stainless. I've used all at some point. The L versions will not normally rust, even after welding, especially the 316L. Not sure which they used, but apparently it was rolled 30X, and perhaps that turned it somewhat Martensitic. But usually Martensitic SS is considered a 409, 410 or 430 stainless. I still am not worried about it rusting under normal conditions.

Yeah I’m not sure I’d be too worried about it.
Every single little thing on CT is getting over analyzed to death because people are going crazy waiting for it.

Just my 2 Cents…

I’ll wait until anyone else confirms this story…

until then I am doubtful of the circumstances.

If you’re the only one experiencing this, then there are other mitigating circumstances to consider. I’m surprised we have no one else complaining about the same issue. Hence my statement.

Picked up CT on 1/22 and noticed an orangish tint and spots I couldn’t remove on the hood. I hit it with a pass of Bar keepers Friend and Windex and it completely cleaned up the surface.

First pic is a closeup, second is halfway done. Third is the completed hood.

So far after cleaning it, it’s held up well. I have used Windex a couple times to remove bird stains and spots from the tree I park under.

White painted cars get the same rust specks. It's industrial fallout and can be cleaned off. It has nothing to do with it being made of stainless steel.

Here is another product that may be worth exploring.

(BTW: I tested the black oxide on Martensitic stainless and it works but seems to accentuate any surface flaws so it is aesthetically sub optimal.)

I still am concerned with the concentrated anode effect of any organic coating on stainless that could lead to pitting. Superhydrophobic coatings may still be worth investigating in so far as keeping water out will result in less galvanic action. Cheers.
