Does your kitchen sink get wet? Or your pots and pans? Flatware?

If it "rusts", it's not stainless steel.
It depends on the makeup of the SS, I electroplate different sub-straights and SS depending on the makeup can be a problem to plate, So depending on the makeup SS can show orange.

Sure, "stainless" is not a single formulation, but I trust that Tesla's engineers considered that the truck will get wet periodically.

Not to mention road salt... Though the way they didn't consider the road spray will occlude the rear view mirror camera, plus putting the rear view camera display somewhere other than where a human who has driven a vehicle before would look... it's hard to know what they did and didn't consider.

LOL, for real..

Out of all the things to not give the benefit of the doubt to Tesla on... jeezaloo...

I mean... they engineered the largest windshield wiper in history... these folks think Tesla didn't also take into account rain hitting the body panels? o_O

It depends on the alloy used. Telsa uses 301. 301 and 304 can rust. I was always careful to buy 316 stainless steel for my boat.

No vehicle can shrug off salt with impunity.
In conditions that wouldn't eat through my paint on a normal vehicle, I would expect that the CT stainless won't rust. I'm not saying take it through salt and park it in a humid barn for 30 years and expect no rust. But 25% of the year, it's impossible to have no salt on body panels where I live. Never had an issue with any other vehicle.

I'm certainly not against taking steps to protect the finish of my vehicles, but it can't rust with reasonable winter use either.

There have been many times when something can be overlooked in the making of cars in the past, I am going by what a few stated about the orange spots. There is a recall for font size on some screens and that seems simple enough to have done correct, so yes sometimes even Tesla makes mistakes. I plan on a wrap if I decide to get it, when it is my turn. I am happy with my S and my Ram truck so I am in no hurry. Now if they passivate the SS with Nitric acid, then this would help. If it's a problem.

Hopefully they do not have carbon (mild steeL) dust flying around in the Texas factory. That is usually the source of mild surface rust. I'm doubtful this is an actual problem. If it is, then it needs to be promptly addressed throughout the manufacturing process...
Ford employees, posing as protestors on the overpass, dumping bags of carbon dust as the Tesla transports go under...... ?????

nah, probably from the train.

Stainless certainly can rust, just much more slowly than non-stainless. Getting wet should not be a problem, but staying wet can be - and salt water would tend to be worse. That includes non-obvious places that water gets into and stays. But in any reasonable amount of time that's only going to be cosmetic.
