Looking like Ford and Rivian had a divorce.

I think the Rivian is super cool! and its awesome they are getting production ramped up and starting deliveries. RJ seems like he has a bright future ahead, both him and the company.

I still think the CT blows Rivian (and almost every vehicle) out of the water as far as value. As long as the CT stays around its price point first stated during reveal, however as we all know a lot has changed in those 2 years.

The premium price point is the main reason behind the relatively low reservation numbers. The rumor is that Rivian will announce a lower priced Dual Motor version with a 250 mile range in early 2022. I will switch to the lower priced trim level if it becomes available next year. The CT is my #1 favorite BEV pickup but I reserved an R1T early in the year to hedge by bets “just in case”.

Here is my current configuration;

-Explore Package $67,500
-Destination fee $1,075
-Documentation fee $70
-Glacier White exterior No charge
-Ocean Coast interior No charge
-20” All Terrain wheels and tires $1,800
-20” full size spare $800
-Off Road Upgrade (composite underbody shields/tow hooks) $2,000

TOTAL $73,245

That is a nice looking rig. I suspect the RT1 and RS1 will compete more with the Model X based on your price quote and people wanting the conventional look. With the exception of towing I don't think many people will mind the range. If you can drive 3 hours on the freeway at 75 mph you can take a 30 minute break.

More range is almost always better. It means you stop less often and for less time. Yes, you still need bathroom breaks, but you can plug in, use the facilities, and leave when you want instead of waiting 10-20 minutes for enough charge to get home.

Of course if you are looking at 300 miles range, the dual motor Cybertruck is $20,000 less than the base Rivian (no idea on options prices so assume they are equal for the moment).

But of course if you are 100% convinced that the Cybertruck dual motor and tri motor configs are both going up in price by $20,000 as some in this conversation are, then the Cybertruck and the Rivian are equally overpriced and neither make sense.

I'm on both lists. CT is my first choice, assuming the final version is reasonably close to the original prototype. R1T wouldn't be a disappointment.

Ryan, every vehicle that gets driven, no matter how simple the design and sophisticated the execution, will need parts and service . So if and when you do get your Rivian, better keep your fingers crossed.

Yup, a scam to raise IPO prices.

Lucid did same thing. Lucid promised 500 cars by end 2021. I do not see how possible at rate they are going now. Expect a very small fraction of that.
Hey at least they delivered something, unlike some other manufacturers (coughNikolacough)

One of my close friends works for the COO of Rivian, and I have an early CT order. IMHO, Rivian isn't a truck. It is a mid-size truck. The bed is comparable to a Ford Ranger or Jeep Gladiator. Sure, Rivian calls it a truck, alas, it isn't a full size truck.

If you are / want to travel with your Rivian, you will be forlorn, because their charging network is going to take 2+ years to build out. Moreover, the battery tech of the Rivian is already obsolete. You will see that it will not charge as fast as the CT.

Rivian was all about saying we are delivering in 2021....well as we know, that is just to Rivian employees and they are doing QA on them. Real Customer orders are delayed until March 2022. Not sure where those 5 or 6 you saw are going.

I'm really surprised no one here is talking about the news that Rivian is pushing back all customer orders until March of next year. I'm assuming still some bugs they haven't yet worked out.

We talked about it in another thread.

It’s not that they haven’t worked out bugs, they just don’t have an assembly line working yet.

As… someone says “Prototypes are easy, Production is hard”. Rivian has done the easy part. They’ve barely started the hard part.

Some of us find production setup thrilling and thus easier to do due to being more fun. Work intensive and fun.

Drew Baglino: Manufacturing is hard and hard problems are fun to solve.

I’m sure he was mumbling that to himself during the 2 years after the original Model S launch date and the actual start of deliveries. Or similarly the 18 months late on the Model X… or the 12 months late (est) for the Cybertruck. Or “Production Hell” starting up the Model 3.

Drew on month 11 after missed deadline: “This is sooo fucking fun I could shit myself”

Well, I’ve been swayed towards the rivian and will be giving up my CT plans. Wondering if anyone here has an early rivian reservation they’d be willing to sell?
I have an early reservation. I would be willing to sell or order the truck you want to buy when I get it. I have both the CT and Rivian truck reserved. Ended up buying a new 2021 RAM this past august because I wanted something new.
