If someone posts steer by wire failure, then never responds to the requests for more information, I am thinking troll? Tesla "disliker" trying to cause a problem?
That's the first thing that pops into my mind as well. However, if you look at his post history, that doesn't seem to be the case.

LOL.

Additional details:
-I was driving
-FSD was not in use.
-Steering was functional
-Steering suddenly became loose and less responsive.
-Turning required full turn of the steering wheel (similar to vehicles without SBW)
-No error codes displayed during incident

Maybe not a loss of Steer by wire but a degradation in responsiveness ?‍♂

Thanks for the feedback

That's a little scary. I hope you reported it. What software version are you on?

There are redundancies in place so yeah not accurate to call this a failure in SBW.

That sounds like the mapping of yoke position to steering angle was messed up.

Anyone else experience a temporary loss of steer by wire. I parked for a few and let the truck shut down, and after returning it was back to normal.
I’d love to see the data on this. I’m a tech and can remote into your vehicle and pull CAN logs to have a look if you’d like. It will take some effort but I’m game for investing my time to see what was happening during this event and share it with the group here. Please PM me your Tesla registered email and your VIN in order to initialize discovery. Also please provide the date/time this issue surfaced.

I hope to hear from you.

Steering is disabled when the vehicle is off: until there is weight in the seat and the brake is depressed, the wheel will not activate the rack.

It’s possible that the steering will shut down if the seatbelt is unbuckled and the seat does not sense weight, but that should shut down everything.
You don't need to sit on seat. Depressing the brake from outside the vehicle wake up and starts the truck and the steering wheel is functional. I done this to demo the 4 wheel steering while standing outside the truck.

Not everyone posts every hour like I do lol, but if you’re gonna drop a bomb like that some details would be nice
Agree, you can't post about something potentially so critical and not detail it more.

For me, if that *really* happened...I'd have it towed to Tesla, make them pull the logs....that is not a experience you'd shrug off....

That said: Try going back to your ICE car after only driving a CT for 6 months! - You'll have a laundry list of what's wrong with a traditional car!.
The first time I drove my BMW after exclusively driving my Cybertruck for 4 months, I arrived at my destination and started getting out of the car. The car lurched ahead and I quickly hit the brakes. I'd forgotten all the things you need to do to shut down ICE cars: put it in park, activate the parking brake, and turn off the motor. I'd gotten so used to arriving and just getting out.

Took me awhile to get used to the stalks for turn signals (I like buttons *much* better), the *huge* amounts I had to turn the wheel to turn the car (hand over hand? Are you nuts?!?), and the way the car just keeps rolling when you release the gas pedal. It was, in all ways, an inferior experience, except it's a convertible and I do like the open air experience.

I'm always on the verge of selling it, and maybe getting a second Cybertruck, since my wife loves the Cybertruck too, and now it's a race to the garage for who gets to drive it.

It’s triple redundancy. Normally it’s double. So almost impossible for all 3 to fail same time.
Only the steering rack position has triple sensors. Rack motor, yoke position, and feedback are all dual.

I had my steering wheel flop like a wet noodle once, it threw me off and wasn’t sure what mode it happen or action started it.
It was just left parked in my driveway, I recall opening the door to get in and grabbed the wheel as I usually do to hop in and the wheel was loose enough to place in normal position, let go and watch it flop to the left like gravity just took over.
After pressing my foot on the break, the screen lit up and the steering wheel flew to center position.
Hasn’t done it since. I wished I knew if it was just powered off, in a weird state or just rebooting, but I heard or saw no indication other than it was just dark and the wheel was floppy and loose.

I have seen that happen during an update in mine but much like yours it corrected as soon as the car powered on.

What does that mean? If you lose steer by wire the steering wheel should be completely flaccid and not turn the wheels at all as I understand it. That sounds scary.
How did you park?
“ flaccid” … ?
