New to CT ownership. I have the mount for the radar…but there is no outlet on the dash to power it. Am i missing something ?

I know that there is a USB and 3 prong outlet inside storage for front seat. How do you all power the radar detectors?

Search on the forum for hardwiring radar detectors or the Uniden radar detector. There are instructions on how to tap into 12-16v where the rearview mirror is. That what I did for mine.
I would highly recommend now tapping into that feed; it has caused all kinds of module issues.

Run it from the USB-C connection in the console. buy a super thin cable and route it up there. Or just don't use a radar at all; not sure why people use them anyway. Google maps and Waze give more awareness to police presence than anything else.

Mirrortap up in the housing, no issues, turns off and on automatically and you only gotta run the cable 8 inches instead of 10 feet

Same, on multiple Teslas. But the pins are delicate, need to pay careful attention when installing.

What problems? I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever and has run perfectly since I tapped it. The amp draw on radar detectors is way below what trips issues on that line. This has been discussed many times.

I fully disagree about awareness on Waze itself … the radar detector has saved me many times. I use both the radar detector and Waze. Many times, I’m the first reporter. The Unidens pick up ka and k band two miles+ from police. That’s some serious awareness.

I run full countermeasures… radar detector, laser jammer, and Waze.

Most of the speeding tickets I've had in the last 25 years were from moving radar in very rural areas (in an oncoming LEO vehicle). How does Google Maps and Waze deal with that?

There have been several people on the forum report all kinds of weird issues; some even resulted in component replacement. The ports/rails at that location apparently don't like any ripple from 3rd party devices. I've also seen technicians chime in and suggest that 3rd party devices only use the port that's lower at the footwell. YMMV, of course.

By alerting you to cops who are posted up ahead. Both announce "speed trap ahead". But in any case, "don't speed" is the actual solution lol

Can you share what devices you are using please?

Maybe. I can only speak for the Uniden. It maxes out about 500ma. The V1 Gen 2 is 430ma at max draw. I am fairly certain his detector will be fine. As for other device usage, I can't speak, and for that I would tend to agree with you as IIRC, the CT begins to shut that down at 2-2.5A. So I wouldn't disagree that folks should be careful. But anything under 750ma draw should be absolutely fine and these detectors shouldn't be a problem.

But some of us enjoy opening it up. I know I have taken my CT to 116mph on the open desert on US 191. Thats part of the fun. I can either take the risk of doing that in the chance encounter of a cop coming my way or I can use countermeasures so I know whether I can do it or not. No tickets in 35 years, so something works and I speed all the time. I just know when and not to as most cops announce themselves with their radar.

I would say a very large majority of the cops I encounter with their radar going are moving as they can nail you while in transit in either direction. Waze will get those who are pulled over as long as you aren't the first report. which happens (me being the 1st report) more often than I would admit. Also, if they are pulled over, many jurisdictions use LIDAR now, which most radar detectors act as a ticket warning because if you are speeding and get hit by lidar, you are already done. The only fix to that is running laser jammers. But those are jurisdictionally illegal. i.e. in FL, they are 100% legal. In Colorado, it is a misdemeanor, with instant confiscations, fine, and possibly some time in the can. However, many jammers, like ALP act as parking sensors, so a press of a button makes them simple parking sensors. So if a cop walks up to it after pulling you over and fires a lidar at it, it shouldn't react. Additionally anyone running a laser jammer should know about Jam To Kill (JTK) where you have X seconds to get to speed before it shuts off so the cop gets a reading (or you manually hit it). Lots of info on that over at the rdforum and on Vortex Radar's Youtube channel.

Using Waze/Jammers/and detector, you are 99% secure in countermeasures to prevent a ticket. The only possibility at that point is having a cop track your speed manually behind you.

Don't speed is great advice, better is don't drive a vehicle capable of speeding.

The problem with EVs is you can exceed the limit just by not paying attention for an instant. Driver perception of speed is lessened in a quiet and smooth vehicle. One may not even know they are speeding or that the limit changed.

I don't know about any of that though, I drive fast on purpose sometimes. Never did before I got my first EV but prolly once or twice since. Prolly.

As a former electronic countermeasures technician in the service, I approve of this message.

Protect yourself, before you wreck yourself!

Well done, sir!

I have a Uniden and use the “Drive Smarter” app with it. F@cking love that thing.

As an experienced speeder (I had my license taken away for 6 months for simply too many minor speeding tickets over 40 years ago), I know you can avoid speeding tickets by going the speed limit. Telling me that is an insult.

But my question was about how Waze and Google Maps could help with moving radar in very rural areas. Your answer of alerting you to cops "posted" ahead tells me you might not know what moving radar is. Or that most of my tickets happen in very rural areas that often don't have enough other traffic to report that anything is up in those areas. I mean, do you think that cops self-report themselves to Waze or Google Maps? Obviously, if there is no cellular coverage, or no observers before you get there, there will be no alert. And if the cop is moving around at 60 mph, there is no pin location to put the alert between reports. This is just common sense.

Don't drive a vehicle capable of speeding? Are you saying I have to give up all my pedal bikes? 🤷‍♂️

This advice is sus.
