It is rather presumptuous that everyone will like what they are getting? Youve arranged your finance and everything and then only do you discover exactly what you're getting??
If they don’t like it they can mark it up and then turn around and sell it. I hate when people do this, but that’s exactly what they’ll do.

Off topic, I see you have painted the strip between your roof and your doors. Looks good.
Thanks! She's a vinyl wrap from tesbros

Sadly that is the way of things up at the front of the line. You can always reject the delivery, but I do not know the implications of that decision as I have never been at the front of the line.
All you should have to do is not complete it and "hold" your reservation/configuration until they start producing one that you are interested in. Historically this is how it has worked.

For example, for the Model 3, they produced the LR RWD Model 3 for the first 3/4ths of the year. Nothing else was available. Lets say you wanted the LR AWD Model 3.

When you received the invite, if the only thing available at the time was the LR RWD, that is all you could configure.

But, you could just not configure and wait until they had the AWD out. This is what alot of people did. When AWD became an option on the configuration, you still had the option to place your order, so you would go into your configuration link on your page and select the AWD and place your order. And bam, you had an actual order and were just waiting on a VIN to be assigned.

Tesla has in the past told people to order or get out of line, but this was after people sitting on order configuration for like more then a year after a bunch of different models were released and available.

The truck goes into a set of inventory that johnny-come-latelies can just buy.

Do it enough, Tesla bans you.

I don’t know if I’d call it presumptuous. The front of the line people, the bleeding edge people are die hard fans. Being an early adopter is more important than whether or not the rear seats recline.

And for those that aren’t early adopters, it’s a refundable deposit, you can always say no when you finally see yours.
I suspect that I will see a lot of them before I have to make a decision, and although that wasn't intentional I suspect it will work out in my favor.

Maybe, and maybe there will be some kind of agreement they have to sign where they say they won't flip it for a certain amount of time. I don't know. Without constraints you are absolutely right, and even if people 'love' the Cybertruck they might do this (and maybe they will have that much more incentive to do so if everyone loves it because its value will increase).

One of the more frustrating aspects of living in a capitalist society. Most people want to buy a thing that will improve their lives at a reasonable price, but other people are like, what if I bought all of those things up, created artificial demand, jacked up the price, and then used it as a means to increase my wealth? The same thing is happening with the housing market and I think it’s wrong.

Things like housing and transportation should not be turned into another stock market where prices fluctuate to the point of paralyzing the majority of the population, or giving someone such buyer’s remorse that they wish they’d never bought the thing in the first place. Just my two cents.

I was ready to disagree with you on home ownership and would have thought developed capitalist country's would have the best opportunity for home ownership but I am way off. It is truly surprising.

I’m hoping Tesla will release some CT tidbits during tomorrow’s earnings call.

Whoa! Where did these statistics come from? I can’t believe Cuba and China have higher home ownership than the US (of course their data is 5-9 years older than ours). I’d also be interested to see what constitutes a home in those countries. Part of America’s problem is that builders don’t want to create affordable housing, because they don’t make as much profit (capitalism run amok again). Have you seen these new home builds these days. Multi tiers roofs for no other reason than to jack up prices. Think about replacing that roof in 30 years? Yikes! Good luck getting solar roofs on those things. We need simpler, more energy efficient houses that people can afford.

Home sweet home. :p

Things like housing and transportation should not be turned into another stock market where prices fluctuate to the point of paralyzing the majority of the population, or giving someone such buyer’s remorse that they wish they’d never bought the thing in the first place. Just my two cents.
The main problem with money is "all the other things" you have to spend it on before you get what you actually want. If only there was a "choice" to only buy what you want or need.

Imagine this scenario: you want to go surfing.

For that you need to travel to a beach, so you need a car, you need registration and insurance, you need maintenance and registration. You need an address to register these things, so you need a house, to pay for the car and the house you need a job. If you have a job you pay tax, social security, 401k etc etc. But all you wanted to do was surf. :p

Many of the "options" that are provided by a capitalist system only exist because they are profitable. They need not be affordable, especially not so if you can generate money through debt.

So if the debt market deems your product is financeable because it could be profitable in the future, your business gets a chance to start. If not, it won't attract any debt, nor investors, and so even though it might be much more beneficial by any other metric, like socially or environmentally, it will still never come into existence because it doesn't make enough money. Decisions are therefore often arbitrarily made by the profitability of coin without further thought.

Now consider home ownership. Here in Australia a good 30% of house construction costs inevitably end up going to tax. So you take out a loan to cover the cost, including the 30% of tax, which you then have to pay back over 30years or more, plus interest. That's 30years of income tax you need to pay, so you can earn enough to pay the interest and capital back, and the 30% tax.

But it gets better, just not for you, in that you end up paying for all the tax upfront, which the gov loves and incentiivises and looks good on the parties budget, but it takes you about 10 years just to payoff the tax before you start repaying the actual cost of the house itself.

Quite simply fractional reserve lending is a ponzi scheme, and every time you touch money you are subject to it rules.
