I went 15% on the front doors and 50% on windshield. Used LLumar IRX for the first time and I really like it. Matches pretty nicely and not too dark at night. My model Y was done with 20% 3M Ceramic and it was harder to see out of at night.

I initially went 15% on the front and quarters to match the rears and then 70% on the rears just for heat rejection in the back because I didn’t want to further darken it, had to come back for windshield the following week.

15% fronts matches well on the outside but only having 70% in the rears paired with the factory darkening created a big discrepancy inside. Beyond that, having nothing on the windshield caused it to seem glaring. It was awkward but also made the fronts seem way too dark and an overall gloomy vibe inside.

The following week I had XR+ 30% installed on windshield and replaced the 70% rears with 55%. The windshield darkening helped normalize everything. If I had to do it again I may try even a little darker on the rears for the inside look, but what I have is pretty close. I don’t think it’s possible to get an exact match from the inside because the chemical treatment on the rear glass filters the light differently.

Do/Did you see what I would call a slight ripple distortion throughout the windshield (not just spots). Almost like looking through a fish bowl. I’m curious if this normal until it fully sets. I’ll park it in the driveway to sit in the sun the next few days.

Thanks!

I saw the same thing for about 2-3 days. They warned me about it but everything looks great now

How is the clarity on your ceramic tinted windshields? Mine seams a little muted compared to side windows clarity (just more brilliant). Was told it was was caused by the slope of the windshield that impacts higher end ceramic tints. Thoughts?

Mine clarity seems good. Just the ripple distortion still (3 days), but it’s been overcast every day so hoping sun will bake it out.

For anyone who has tinted the windows could you please share your experiences and suggestions?

What %'s did you go with?

Did you tint the windshield?

Pics???

If anyone in NJ has any helpful tips, curious how much we can get away with before it becomes a pull over nuisance.

Thanks in advance, appreciate it!
70 windshield, 35 front row, 70 second row, xpel XR, I don’t like too dark, mine is within the legal limit, I did the same on my model S previously, yeah just personal preference and worry about getting sued if in an accident if not legal

Hey all,

First off, thank you for everyone who has posted their tinting specs and experiences. After culling through all of the data and pictures, I pulled the trigger. Had a great installation experience with RPM Window Tinting, 308-883-2727. They work in Colorado and Nebraska. One of the best things was they came to my house to do the tint. No leaving the truck somewhere, and could see and learn while the work was being done.

Here's what they installed:
Hitek Ceramic IR
Windshield: 50% with 99% UV protection, 80% IRR, 88% Heat Reduction and 55% Glare Reduction.
Front and A-pillar windows: 15% with 99%UV, 85% IRR, 72% Glare.

Front windows match rear windows well. Windshield has a good tint, much more comfortable during the day, and not too dark at night. SIGNIFICANT reduction in sun heat coming into cab.

Would do it again exactly the same way.
