Would You BUY a CT again today?

Given what you know now (May 2025)…take out the fanboyism…take into account the controversial style, social hatred, recalls, fit & finish, discoloration of bed, FSD updates lagging behind other Teslas, no matrix headlights, no range extender battery, etc.

(Note, i am NOT a hater…please see my previous posts…but just want to list as many negatives as i can think of so to get an accurate answer. And yes, i have been researching A LOT and know that there are MANY positives about CT…but just want to push people to give honest answer.)

What would you tell your younger self if you could travel back in time to when you hit the BUY button? Would you stop yourself from buying? Or not? If Tesla bought back your CT today, then would you buy another again?

YES! I got mine FS edition back in July ‘24 and I’d buy another one. As a matter of fact I was thinking about trading in my ‘24 MX at some point since I hardly ever use it and my option would be another CT.

As a first-time Tesla buyer, I would have told myself to wait at least a year after launch because of the way Tesla treats early adopters and those who help them ramp up a product.

I have come to understand that with Tesla, it's much better to be a late adopter. That way you'll get lower interest rates, free FSD for a year, free supercharging, actual wheel covers with your vehicle (they started shipping on vehicles, even to Canada, before they fulfilled early buyer wheel cover back orders), actual lightbar (not 9 months after purchase), and the ability to make a decision as to whether the stock range would be acceptable (I had been hoping for 500-600 mile range, but the range extender pushed me over the edge to purchase a 300-mile vehicle). They allowed me to spec a grey interior, without giving me a $2000 credit for a cheaper cost interior. I paid for FSD, but I feel that I'm really beta-testing it for them. Each release it gets worse, not better.

Tesla have shown zero loyalty to their early adopters, and in fact have given much more to late adopters. This mindset will inform my buying decisions going forward. Tesla are also really poor at customer service. If you have a problem with a store purchase, there is no direct email or number to call to get in touch with anyone. I'm still waiting for things that were supposedly in stock in January from the Tesla store, even after escalating it 4 times.

The way Tesla treats their loyal early adopters has been a huge letdown. They don't need to make it right, but I'd definitely think twice before buying a Tesla within the first year of launch (if there is a next time).

I've been considering this a lot lately.. Having moved to a new city (college town) right before making my purchase and not establishing a strong community of friends here, its been rough having such a controversial vehicle and being treated like a pariah in some circumstances.. The inability to park my vehicle without considerations has brought me a lot of anxiety also. I've not gone on second dates because they found out I have a CT.. Everything has become political.. I did not think the CT would get THIS MUCH hate.. Yet, I cannot regret my decision.. $80k is a lot of money to me too! (paid in full). However, this was a dream.. and actually living with the vehicle, I can truly say it is incredible.. A marvel of beautiful engineering. The drive is fantastic. The speed is so much fun. The cabin is comfortable. Parking is easy with steer by wire. I've only had one issue which the service center was able to address.. If one can put up with the thumbs down and middle fingers, it is a fantastic vehicle to own. I've also received lots of love and inquiry. I have very little regrets in life, thankful for that..

The way I look at it is those brain damaged individuals I wouldn’t want as my friends anyway, so the truck just makes those decisions easy for me!

Maybe...probably....most likely. I love my truck. I can get passed the hate.

I would have liked the built in ramp, a mid gate, digital rear view mirror. Hopefully we'll get other things in software i.e. squat mode, real birds eye view, better front camera guide lines and distance estimation....maybe the ability add accessory cameras. Other EV trucks have these (minus squat).

If I had known then ( late October) that if I waited until January that I would qualify for the rebate I would have waited until then. Otherwise, yes I would buy it again. No problems worth mentioning. Everything I expected and more.

For me, yes, definitely.
Bottom line for me, it may not be the best pickup, the best sports car, the best family vehicle, etc.
BUT, it's pretty dang good at all of those.
It seems to me you'd have to buy two or three vehicles to cover its fun and utility.

The steering has turned out to be the biggest WOW for me. So nice to drive and maneuver.
Backing up with a trailer is much easier and smoother (not that I'm particularly great at it).

I've towed a 5,000 lb trailer and tractor, definitely reduced the range, but quite doable. About 2/3 the range.
If I towed a trailer all the time for my job and had to charge during the workday, that might be a different story.

Full disclosure, I am a Tesla fanboy.
FSD has come a long way, though I enjoy driving it, and I drive myself most of the time.
I love that I haven't wasted a minute of my time at a gas station since 2019 when I bought our M3.

I could go on; I'll leave it at that.

I needed 500 miles, I didn’t get it. I purchased anyway, knew what I was getting and I’m generally happy with what it is. But I said it before, it really isn’t exactly what I wanted/needed. It cannot replace my FJ. I’m normally uncompromising. This is why.

The range is my only real regret. 500 mile vs. 320 mile range. For me, the extra range is the difference between having to get ~33% of my charge from Superchargers and <5%. By no means disqualifying for the CT, but certainly enough of a convenience that I was planning on parting with another $16,000 to save me that time.

Love the performance, handling, technology, but would wait for the 500 miles. Current real world driving range of 250/270 miles requires significantly more stops than I wanted.

You had to go and open that wound! Had kind of forgotten about that, but yeah, total bullshit. ?

No way for us to know that that color was going to be considered base. There’s no other Tesla that has a gray interior option and they certainly knew what they were planning before putting it in the configurator so just inform people— it’s fucking ridiculous.

Would not have changed my choice but I definitely would have demanded a $2000 decrease in my purchase price or something to offset that diminution in value. They probably still owe it to us. I might take steps to rectify this. ?

Yeah, I feel your pain. I bought mine long before the CT was perceived as a controversial/political statement. I’ve owned a lot of trucks and full-size 4 x 4 vans and it is by far the best truck I’ve ever owned. My only complaint is all the hate and negativity that has been thrown our way as CT owners. They see the truck and they make a lot of assumptions about who we are, what we think, and our political stance. That’s the bad news. The good news is that sooner or later this will all go away. Because less than 5% of all Reservations turned into sales, Tesla has a lot of CT’s that they’re trying to unload and I’ve been reading about all the incentives that they are doing now to get people to buy cyber trucks. It appears that they’re going to significantly drop the prices and throw in free FSD for a full year. If this happens, there will be more CT’s on the road, and if that happens, they will become more normalized and create less hate. Hang in there!

Yes. Not a fan of the backlash from others regarding the politics or the look of the vehicle. I realize I might be on a bit of an island here loving the vehicle but not the biggest fan of the appearance. But I lean into that around others and happily throw myself out as a punching bag.

On the issue of treatment of early adopters, I’d say that’s the way technology goes. Remember the original iPhone? People were shelling out huge sums and the device ultimately came down considerably. The part that makes Tesla so maddening is what makes them great. Nobody on this forum should be surprised that a version made months (or even days) later has different configuration.

I was a relatively early ramp Model 3 purchaser. New features came out. Still love my car. Same for the truck. I understand people are pissed off, but with technology, you can’t sit and wait for it to be perfected. By definition it never will be. We can instead choose a 2025 or 2024 [other brand vehicle] and we’ll know exactly what we get.

Also, understand the frustration on the range extender. But, there was rampant speculation it would never come out. That’s the reason I didn’t put money down on it. If you weren’t satisfied with the range at 320, don’t buy it.

Tesla is maddening. But maddening is how we’ve gotten to have these great vehicles. If it weren’t for early adopters on the Roadster, we wouldn’T have the S, X, or the 3, Y or the Truck. Each one of these groups had their own frustrations. If you don’t like your truck now, trade it in.

On that note… the new Y is amazing. Truck was in the shop for a tire replacement and I test drove it. Very impressive.
