I am on the list for a dual motor and I am still fine with that, but the four wheel steering seems like a nice feature.
I feel like this will only be offered on the highest-end model at a nice premium.
Does anyone have a reason to think otherwise? Maybe it will be easier to add the AWS hardware to models with fewer motors? Or perhaps it will be an easy way to add a nice 10k option to any model?

Nobody knows. I personally think All Wheel Steering will be on all models, but that is only a hunch. We have no evidence or data to state anything beyond pure speculation.
That’s not entirely true.

Other manufacturers have offered four-wheel steering as an option for around $3000-$4000. It should be no more than that as an option.

furthermore Elon has said many times that “mass production solves many problems“. It is typical of Tesla to include features across many variants to make the overall feature price lower.

Some people see speculation as fact, others fact as speculation. 😋

Fact is all CT models will have 4WS as standard. The feature will cost Tesla less than $1000 to implement. All models will also have Quad motors. There won't be a single at all, and a dual motor will be rear wheel drive only, and only come out in a few years.

Either way you are right that the 4WS will be standard on a quad motor, it's just that all CT's will be Quad motors and therefore have 4WS standard.😋

Now I speculate the above facts are true, because I believe Tesla is making a smaller CF wrapped quad motor to make the QM CT affordable and standard accross the range. If this speculation is incorrect than so are the facts I presented, and it becomes a fact that Tesla isn't as innovative as I thought.

Tesla rarely makes major features vary in a model. It would make the trucks drive and turn very differently, and would make one truck less safe and need different AI to drive it.

So no, I think they'll work on making it into all the models.

The dash tho? Maybe? They've never had different dashes, either.

Yes. I think they will implement one steering system, drive by wire, with turning motors at each wheel. Designing a second system would be more work than it's worth.
They will have one electric powered rack and pinion steering setup in the front mechanically connected to the steering wheel, and actuating both front wheels through a Akerman linkage to keep both front wheels in track, and then have a steer by wire electric powered steering rack with limited steering angle (up to 10-15degrees) for it to fit in the wheel arch, and both rear wheels would also being interconnected mechanically with a Akerman linkage so that it also tracks the turning angle properly without tyre scrub. The rear steering will also likely have a failure mode that will mechanically return it to straight should the system fail.

You can do crab, opposite or front axle steering, but diamond on the spot steering won't be available. As such it won't need, or have an independent steering system per wheel, or 4 in total.
I also seriously doubt they will have drive by wire for the front, but of course it will be electric assisted to allow for FSD etc. Like that they only need two steering setups, and wheel track and alignment is always fixed mechanically. Using 4 steering systems and having to keep them aligned will be an absolute nightmare to achieve, and wouldn't be homologated anywhere in the world I know of. I mean the US can't even get rid of side mirrors yet, so there's no chance of it happening.

Note that every wheel tracks a different path when turning a corner, and that is what the Akerman linkage compensates for whilst keeping perfect alignment.

Oldy but goodie:

When Elon said the CT would have 4WS he didn’t specify a trim, so I believe it will be on all trims. Besides that, in the early days when they took the prototype out it was clear that it was ‘clumsy’. How could they claim to have the best truck with something clumsy? 4WS was the answer.

Charlie mate, sorry to shoot you down again buddy, but there will be no diamond steering as per my posts above, and all models will be quad motor and have 4WS standard.

I know you're really clucky for diamond steering so you can turn around in your front driveway without making cactus of your roses, so you can load a slab and a goon, your esky full of tucker, barbie for the snags, and that mob of ankle biters in the back of the ute for a day out woop woops, all just so you can impress your Sheila. 🤣🤣😎
