Yes, that is how the regenerative braking works to charge the battery. There are a few good videos on YouTube where people pull a Tesla with another vehicle to test how much charge gets added. One nice thing about EVs is that there are many ways to charge them in an apocalyptic situation.

I think you need to re-watch their video because you're pulling a factoid out of context. News reports often suck when it comes to actual information. I don't know where they got 18 from, since the strips are in sets of 16, times four per roll, and they're using 6 rolls to recharge the car... And the news report didn't mention they were using 6 hours a day to charge the car.

One demo they did was one roll on a little motorcycle style trailer, and in the live one they're using a little van to carry the rolls. The point is that they're very cheap, and very light, the rolls are not in fact all that massive.

No one should be saying these rolls would be what you put on your truck - they're a technology demonstration for hanging on building walls or greenhouses or whatever. It's about being cheap enough that you can put them anywhere and not care that they're particularly efficient.

Hey Crissa......can you cut-off the current home charger cable and handle and to attach to a 200w panel and connect to a model 3 and charge?

Or just have a horse pull it around a closed loop to charge up the batteries :D

I don't own a Tesla (yet), but I heard you aren't supposed to flat tow a Tesla. Isn't that true?

Correct. The motors cannot be disengaged from the wheels.

Yes, but that seems like a weird rube-goldberg-esque system. It would also bypass some safety systems the chargers have, too, and expose the car to wear or weather.

One nice thing about EVs is that there are many ways to charge them in an apocalyptic situation.
So right! Whenever we have red-flag weather I end up using the Zero because it doesn't particularly care where the energy is from, unlike the Ducati, which gotta have its premium gasoline.

(The lane-splitting is just icing on the backed-up traffic cake.)
