no doubt that, for now, the answer comes down to one's perceptions and the reasonableness of inferences based on available limited information

that said, when relaying perceptions and inferences (esp those that might be taken as controversial) I do try and show my work

and I'm all ears for inferences that are borne of something more
It is all speculation until we get numbers. The data we have so far really points to it being similar to standard 1/2 ton trucks. It has been stated to be similar vehicle, compared to them, and all the size measurements that we do have are similar (3" in length less, similar bed). Elon can be hyperbolic at time (I know I'm putting that mildly), but the big inside statement is another point to being 'roomy.' I think there is a decent chance it is a slight bit smaller than a F150, Ram 1500, Silverado... but I think the difference will be an inch or two at most.

Four doors, seats 5, and has a 6-foot bed. What "sacrifices" should I be evaluating?

Making it longer also adds weight, reduces the turning radius, reduces the entry/exit angle, and makes it harder to park generally.
I agree, giving the truck
Utility is worth it!

Are we trusting my dimensions now post call? ;) kiiiiidding.

Mirror width I don't positively have, but the other two I have somewhere, will report back in a bit.

Is it worth it to purchase an electric truck made by a U.S. based corporation focused solely upon producing only electric vehicles and promoting sustainable infrastructure? Yes, without qualification. Am I disappointed? Absolutely. I've made no secret about my preference for an eight foot bed length. But, the further reduction in the length of the bed and the focus on putting the truck in a garage shows me the person(s) adapting this truck don't actually use trucks. If you're wealthy, and want to put the truck in a garage, then build the garage deeper and taller. If you're a "regular Joe", and not part of a HOA, parking outside is normal. Especially a truck with an impervious stainless steel and bulletproof glass outer shell. My preference continues to be function over form. I am buying this truck to use it, not store it and prance around in it to look a certain way. Further proof that these changes, IMHO, are counterproductive, is the addition of a rack or a camper. Once these are added, the parameters of a standard garage will be exceeded. Elon had a great idea at the beginning, even with the 78" bed length. I am still intent on purchasing the Cybertruck as an electric alternative to the I.C.E. options. But, if someone actually makes a competent electric truck with an eight foot bed, I would consider it even though it isn't a Tesla.

Yes, I am pleased to hear that the Cybertruck will be shorter than 19' long. The only other measurement that I am still waiting on is the width.

I'm also loving the stubbier front end. I think Franz and his design team did an outstanding job.

I'm still amazed at how much the production version looks like the concept.

I'm amazed how many people love this photo comparison I did. (all my photos really)

Mileage has been crazy. Had a licensing company hit up my Twit to ask about licensing some of my clips on media. I just want awareness for the truck. "Storyful" I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If the price of the CT fits my pocket $, then yes! Either way, I still going to buy it. I don't real care too much about size and passthrough mid-gate like most do. CT all the way!

Do you work for WSJ or Barrons?

What are these "sacrifices" you speak of?
You can make a list of the changes they made from the prototype and we can go over it.

As to the
the stubbier front end.
It looks like the approach angle has significantly improved which should make off-roaders happy. The departure angle not so much. But that may be necessary for the ability to deal with heavy loads and trailers.

And I agree that they did a great job of keeping the concept car look.

Do you have a Tesla? I live in Canada and my CT will be garaged stored. Winter kills an EV range, but you can significantly reduce the effects by keeping it indoors and pre heating it. We currently keep our Model 3 outside and in winter you can lose around 40% of the range. When we're on the road and stay at a hotel with heated parking, with winter loss is more like 20%. We'll be building a garage.

Also, we live downtown and our CT will almost certainly be the first in the region. I can guarantee there will be a drunk wandering home some night and want to recreate the steel ball stunt and throw a rock at the Cyber thinking they're cool. It will be inside.
I live in the mountains of Eastern Oregon. The temperatures here regularly reach double digit negatives in Fahrenheit without considering wind chill. Yes, I own a model Y and it is always parked outside. Yes, I have a garage that is actually 21' deep, but I use it as my shop. I do have the ability to park off street, but if a drunk did vandalize my vehicle, there are cameras to prove it to insurance and to the police. As for range, I have had two incidents since I have owned Tesla vehicles where range became an issue. I learned from that to not be the guy who thinks a quarter tank is "enough". I am not willing to push any vehicle I drive into a low reserve situation because I KNOW that doing so harms the machine... harms my tool and my asset.

This sacrifice circled in the image below. And dont try to say camera angle. because both are fairly equal. That stubbiness almost certainly adds to the drag on the vehicle. The geometry of the CT makes it very sensitive to proportionality. The old front end looked better. And i guess my point is that if the purpose of stubbing the front end was to fit in a garage, that was a dumb decision IMO. I guess the Rivian will fit in a garage so maybe they were worried about losing sales because of it. The production bottom image looks like its missing the front end from the side.

Wondering if it helps the approach angle?
I do see there is a [removable] area flap on the new version.

I have split level garage slabs, so will be using transition type of ramps to allow the Cybertruck to utilize the space to fit. Already setup for Cybertruck.

I didn't doubt your "just over 227"" length figure was roughly true!

Not the least of reasons being that your figure was in line with my estimates (228"-232") - which is all I needed to know that it wasnt *longer* than an F150 nor *shorter* than a 4 door Tacoma long bed.

That doesn't stop me from wondering about the width!

Here's a thought experiment for us, though:

A 4 door Tacoma with 6'1" bed: 225.5 in
A 4 door Colorado/Canyon with 6'2" bed: 224.9
That means the "less than 19'" CT is ~2" longer than a comparable Tacoma/Colorado/Canyon.

However: Imagine a CT that has instead only a 5.5' bed, like an F150 - so taking 6-7" off the CT's ~227.5" currently. That would mean the 5.5' bed CT would be only 220" vs an 5.5' bed F150's at 231.7"

Where'd that other 12" go?

Because I can't believe anyone who says it all came off the nose - people fail to realize just how 'stubby' an F150's "nose" is past the front fender (it's the CT's windshield line that creates that stubby looking effect). The CT nose may be a *bit* shorter, but not by no 12"!

Anyone complaining about the origional size of the truck doesn't own a full size truck. When I built my house I made my garage 32 feet deep in anticipation of fitting a lift with a full size truck in there.

The rear cab area is important for large passangers and cargo so every inch they reduced this just to get it under 20' is a shame. The same goes for the Frunk but I am less concerned with that.

If tesla wanted to sell this truck to full size SUV owners then this is the right move, if they want to sell this to full size truck owners... we'll need to see where the compromises were.

Were the size sacrifices worth it?
I may be a bit off from everyone else on this thread but I would think it has to fit into a garage because that is where most in-home chargers are located. I'm in Florida where snow is not an issue but rain is. I prefer driving into my garage on rainy days. At nights when I'm charging my model 3 it is parked in the garage where the charger is. I refuse to get an outside charger because the house next door is a rental property and every few years there are new neighbors there and typically they don't know how to respect boundaries. In the event the neighbors have a tesla I can only expect they would use my charger as they constantly steal and use my garden hose. Like I said, they are renters and might have came from apartments and haven't figured out they can simply buy themselves their own hose but why spend your own money on an affordable hose when you can steal a usage of someone else’s I guess? I can only imagine what will happen to my outside charger if these people can't simply buy a cheap hose and a charger costs as much as $400+ the cost of installation. It is important to make the CT fit into a garage especially for folks in California and other states/cities that has different peak usage based on time of day. From what I've read, California Tesla owners have to set their cars to charge at nights when it's most affordable and most of them charge in garages. If the CT cannot fit into a standard size garage it will require owners to install an additional charger on the outside of their homes which leaves their electricity vulnerable to be stolen. Imagine having a gasoline pump in your front yard and foolishly believing people won't steal your gasoline whether it's in the middle of the night or when you'r out of town or even just at work away from home. That's just my opinion and what I take from the need to make sure CT fits into a 20' garage.
