I’ve had a drunk for the better part of 40 years. (No, Tesla didn’t invent the frunk, or even the name) it’s not my preferred storage location. I don’t have a truck, but I’ll always pick bed space over frunk space. And when you have a folding rear seat, that’s far better than a frunk.

If I can put a small Costco run in there, I’m good. Maybe an IFAK. I didn’t place an deposit because of the frunk.

I don’t care. I just want mine like now. But I will patiently wait until 265,000 are made

I will look into those. However, the key would be that I can give my phone a voice command to open the frunk.
That is easy and you can be certain that Tesla will do it. The tricky part is using your phone to close the frunk. Tesla has no motor on any of its vehicles for hood closing/locking but the Cybertruck is special so we can always hope.

Dunno, Would you prefer hardware volume in cabin be moved to frunk?
If we already have the entire 6' truck bed and air conditioned crew cab, why sacrifice either of those to have frunk space?
Nevermind the F150 crash tests. Start 0:56

Take out the tall motor and ?

Im just think I want mass and hardware between me and whatever is slamming into me and family.
Dunno?
Maybe hollow frunk airspace better crash protection?
Thoughts? Poll?
You absolutely do NOT want that massive motor between you and your family.

In any motor vehicle collision there are three collisions: 1 - the vehicle with an external object. 2 - the human body(ies) colliding with the interior, and 3 - internal organs colliding with internal body supports.

ANYTHING that can reduce force prior to numbers 2 & 3 occurring is of lifesaving implication.

So, ANY amount of crumple zone in the front of the vehicle that can be implemented is fantastic. Guess what an engine can't do - crumple. An engine transfered 100% if the force into anything behind it. A lot of vehicle design is to differ force from the centerline of the vehicle. A date amount if the purpose behind that is to keep the motor from sitting in one's lap.

A hollow frunk space, if constructed/supported in a way to slow down a colliding object is unimaginably better than a huge heavy motor. This is the same reason that airbags are so effective.

I'm not worried about closing it manually. Just would like to be able to open it via a voice command as I approach in the event my and are full and I can't manipulate my phone/key card.

All good. I'm sure a solution will be available even if it doesn't work that way upon release.

Some of you make me feel old at only 60 by expecting everything to be automatic, so the biggest muscle you have to exercise to open frunks and trunks is your tongue muscle. And this is on a vehicle in which weight is a real design consideration because it must accelerate, corner and brake. Lightness and simplicity help increase efficiency, reliability and affordability of an item that is already expensive relative to most peoples budgets.

I can only imagine all you "youngsters" who find it too inconvenient to open a trunk or frunk of their work truck with their hand, must have already upgraded their kitchens with power cabinets, power fridge and power oven, with voice commands, of course. Or maybe you just wave your toe back and forth under the cabinet or appliance you want to open. Because your hands are often full or wet/messy when preparing food. And the design considerations in a kitchen don't include minimizing weight, yet you think even a vehicle should have this added, as standard, despite the extra expense/complication/weight.

I feel like my kitchen is so inconvenient now that I've realized it should come with a power oven door and a fridge that I only need to say "Open sesame, you most awesome food chiller"! How much do these "must have" kitchen upgrades cost and where do I get them? Or, should I just stick with simplicity and come to terms that I might get a little tomato squeezings on my fridge door handle or have to open the oven manually, while holding the cooking tray in the other hand? This is before I consider how many times I have to open the kitchen cabinet doors with my hands full!

And I thought power can openers were an odd kitchen accessory when they started to become popular in the 1960's. I guess this same principle explains shoes that no longer require a manual and laborious shoelace tying procedure. Because shoe tying knots are hard. Next thing you know, a car will not be good enough without a power rear view mirror and a self-closing glovebox. Because who wants to do those inconvenient tasks using manual labor? What if my hands are busy texting? Oh, yeah, there's a solution for that.

Pretty soon, we won't need to get out of bed because the bed will send focused beams of high-frequency electrical energy to stimulate the muscles and provide effortless exercise while an IV drip provides all the necessary nutrients without food preperation, and a VR headset makes you think you are laboriously walking outside using your own muscles and opening your car door manually to get in and go to work. What a wonderful life we could have if we take this line of thinking to the limit! ?

I’m a bit surprised about some of the forum members bitching about the small frunk space.

Remember that lot of reservation holders bitched about the concept truck not fitting into their standard 20’ long American garage. Tesla answered your wishes by shortening the truck to under 19’.

Cybertruck buyers forget that the truck uses a cab forward design. You can see in the concept vs. production photo below that the front nose has gotten significantly shorter.

I could care less about the small frunk. It still has plenty of storage for my needs;

-Secure 6’ truck bed (rolling tonneau cover)
-Sub-trunk storage in bed
-Frunk storage

I still plan on following through with my reservation because I absolutely love the exclusive Space X inspired stainless steel exterior of the pickup. No other pickup truck or ANY vehicle on the market offers this type of durability.

note significantly shorter front end

Would be nice if they came powered from the factory but it’s very easy to install the aftermarket frunklid powering kits, and they work great.
It takes more time and energy to install them than they can possibly save over the life of the vehicle. And that's ingoring any adjustments or repairs required over that timeframe.

My desire for a Lightning like frunk should not be confused as complaining. You are right, the list of other industry changing benefits the Cybertruck will offer way out numbers my need for the frunk.

I fully expect my truck will be driving me in within a year of receiving. That is kinda cooler then a frunk.

They intentionally "leak" the video and see how we react. I believe there should be some of program managers from Tesla in the forum.
Anyway, I think frunk is very easy to use, but CT's frunk is just too small. At lease it should be able to handle some backpacks which able to carry a macbook, right? Or like we go to groceries after work.

I get it there should be very tight already as the front part got shrinked, but I would sacrifice some room between driver and shotgun inside the cabin for some extra room in the frunk.

I say.......... 9 cubic ft. About 250Liters.

But.... it could also be 11.5cubic and like 325 liters.

So like.. 2 or 3 cubic ft smaller than the Lightning. It's pretty negligible.

We'll know soon.

Yea, love how you did that post.
DM? Dont want to clog thread.
Thats my thoughts: Crumple zones need material.

In F150 video around 0:56+ , you can notice cabin actually stops and frame continues forward attempting to further compact crumple zone against obstacle. The drivetrain does not crumple and hence decreases distance available for decelerating occupants. Silly engine and trans in way.

Cybertruck is not modified body on frame chassis like lightning.

Wondering if a "Colorado" headon impact (3" lifted quarter ton ICE pickup) will be more survivable in cybertruck vs lightning.
https://insideevs.com/news/529736/ford-f150-lightning-rolling-chassis/
Narrow high cg impact dead center lightning?
I will DM you.

However, to be honest, I think all these BEV vehicles have substantial crash benefits over the ICE equivalents because the large gas engines do not compress and the firewall has to stop them.

All these big companies do incredible crumble zone designs and testing. As well the high tech seat belts and various air bag beyond just the front one protect people like never before.
Their ratings reflect that.

I think competition is so valuable for all us owners and regularly give credit to Tesla for making the EV expansion happen faster. I'm really really looking forward to Fords T3 (next gen F150) BlueOval manufacturing outputs [thread].
