Passing through Mojave, CA today. (A friend sent me this photo)

Interesting markings on the bottom CT on either side of the back door. Has this been talked through yet?

because these units are all headed to showrooms for a big nationwide sale over Labor Day, they wanted to roll them up with some lipstick

(good spot - my first guess is panel gap measures in mm)

Also waiting for wild ass guesses about these doors with lateral scuffs

haven’t been looking hard, but we’ve seen at least 2 driver’s doors and 2 passenger doors, all fronts

Panel gaps in millimeters? Or ~6000 microns.
I've been wondering if they would just have the delivery center to the final alignment on these initial CTs in order to expedite the delivery event

The discolorations on the door might be a type of protective film to be removed later. The fact that the dark areas are specific to the door could be its applied before and color occurred assembly.

The tailgate looks like it has a protective film.

These vehicles represent a genuine mystery to me. None of the running theories make complete sense. The odd markings on the door, the random bits of sticky plastic, the taped front, the grubbiness around the edges. What’s going on?

If it was some protective film you’d expect to see remnants of the same pattern elsewhere. And I still don’t understand the taped down bonnet.

If it was because of some side impact testing you’d expect to see marks beyond the well defined door surface.

Unless perhaps the steel stamping machine is somehow not quite working and maybe the bonnets are lacking a proper latch for whatever reason (but why send them out that way?). I guess then the cars might be heading for testing and it just doesn’t matter that they don’t have everything.

Intriguing.
