I’m tired of reposting this. Look up the numerous articles about it or watch the May 2023 shareholders meeting on YouTube, so you can hear the words coming out of Elon’s mouth.
And we're getting tired of you repeating the same mischaracterizations.

Even in your own posts, you note that Elon was quoted as saying "It's going to be hard to make [it] affordable".

He never, ever said or implied "It won't be affordable."

"We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard." - John F. Kennedy, September 12, 1962

Space is hard! I can't remember, did we ever make it to the moon?

I believe the below quote is the one you are referring to.

2023 Annual Sharehold Meeting - Around 1:31:50

We will start production later this year, we will hand over cars later this year. There will be an S curve of production, it will be slow at first and then ramp up. And I guess we will see what the demand is like. We are likely to do a quarter of a million per year, I think, maybe more. Again, very much dependent on what the demand is like.

We don't just need to ramp up production, we also need to improve the production cost efficiency, which is also going to be a very hard thing. So I would say a quarter million a year is a reasonable guess. And it might be five-hundred-thousand. I don't know. We will make as many as people want and can afford.

And its going to be hard to make the cost affordable, because it is a new car, a new manufacturing method.
He says it is hard to make the cost affordable. He also says that they need to improve production cost efficiency.

You can interpret this a number of ways, one that this indicates it is going to cost a lot more (ie, they fail at the challenge of improving production cost efficiency), or you could interpret it as a primary focus of Tesla is to keep the cost reasonable and that this is not an easy thing to accomplish (but they are focused on it).

I’ve listened to them all. Many more than once.

I have not once heard musk say they cannot make an affordable truck.

Musk did not say what you claim he said.

So?

You think Tesla won't price match their competitions as well as consider their own internal production ramp? They know the market and how much consumers can handle.

I reckon Tesla will not have incentives to lower CT prices to numbers shown in 2019, initially. They will up the price so that supply matches demand.
I don’t think, as I’ve stated previously in this thread, that Tesla has competitors. Just other car companies trying to sell cars and stay in business. The other car companies may think they are competing but they are trying to stay in business. If they are still here in a year then maybe they stand a chance at starting to compete.

Your paragraph B contradicts your paragraph A.

Tesla has never spiked the pricing of vehicles that people have already put down reservations or preorders for.

Do we really need so many pricing threads?

-Crissa
How can we ever have enough pricing threads. Really? Really!

If you're tired of reposting it, maybe get the quote right.

I think his pricing and trim estimates are right on the money. The initial Cybertruck trims will NOT be under $70k. I also agree that a Dual Motor “standard range” trim is years away from production.

With demand off the charts for the CT Tesla has zero incentive to offer a “base” DM at the start of production. It will be offered after all of the hype and demand has started to dwindle a bit. I am guessing 2027-2028.

Farzad‘s MSRP estimates and initial trim offerings are pretty much identical to what I have predicted.

I predict only 2 choices for reservation holders when they get the e-mail to configure their Cybertruck. Tri Motor Performance or Dual Motor Extended. Oh, and don’t forget all of the tasty factory options and genuine Tesla Cybertruck accessories that will add to the base price.

Farzad‘s MSRP estimates and initial trim offerings are pretty much identical of what I have been saying as production looms close:

-Tri Motor Performance: $80k
-Dual Motor Extended: $70k
There is one extremely good reason to offer a "standard range" vehicle: it allows them to build more trucks. With battery capacity running around 80,000 kwh a week, a 450 mile Silverado competitor means building 450 trucks a week. The 300 mile lightning competitor means building 600 a week. Even if unit margins are lower on the second vehicle, the total profitability is higher.

I would not be surprised if they follow the same path that Rivan did and launch the mid-range followed by long range (followed by cancelling the short range... s00n).

Also, demand will not be off the charts if they saying they're jacking the price 40% or adding additional years to the wait time.

The goal is to transition from ICE vehicles to EVs, not to fail.
