want an American truck, you get imperial measures;)
We fought a very bloody war (2 of them actually) to get rid of and keep out the imperial overlords. Somehow the people still want imperialism in their measures.

The metric system is as easy and as straight forward as the decimal system.

You can also use a AR Measuring Tape app on iOS or Android. You should be able to measure the entire truck quickly without touching it. Perhaps not as accurate.

I'm just hoping we get a release event soon, so we can all stop speculating on specs and features.

I now use metric in the woodshop so the math is easier.

Well, that and my German tools are calibrated that way.... ?

now the question is: Are microns metric or imperial??? ........

Thing is, we’ve already got most any exterior measurement down to the degree of accuracy of those apps.

you can bank on it being ~79ā€ wide (give or take an inch) by ~226ā€ long (give or take two)

Folks requiring more accuracy than that won’t be helped by an app, or even a measuring tape (you can’t measure cars with just a tape very well).

now, separately, folks might be interested in various bed measurements. The bed floor length is 6’1ā€ …

… but as for the rest of the bed measurements given all the angles and slopes back there, the rest of the bed is infinitely different measurements ??ā€ā™‚

I also still want to speak English, even if it’s one of the hardest languages to learn and use and isn’t that beautiful on the ear

jokes aside, I don’t care or pay much attention - and from that ignorance it seems to me the there are things the metric system is better for, and things imperial is better for

And maybe people tend to cherry pick the few things metric is better for as proof that it’s ā€˜better’ all-around?

Seems that’s like people who use imperial saying that because Fahrenheit is obviously better than Celsius (it is), metric folks should convert
?

US inches are 1.7 millionths longer than the Imperial inch.

I was interested in this, because I had never heard of it. But the very link you provided, had this to say:

The only difference between the imperial system and the U.S. system is in volume measurements.
I couldn't find any support for your claim there (but I might have skimmed over it too fast). Are you sure the difference is not simply a rounding error and not an actual difference between the two systems?

I was going to say this has been debunked, but that’s not fair. Those CT dimensions are estimated from the prototype, which we now know is larger than production CT.
MDR's estimates were based on the pre-production beta shown at Investor Day, no evidence of dimensions changing between that and the RCs.

It depends on what you are used to. If you grew up on imperial, then that is easier. If you grew up on metric, then that is easier. Yes, the math part is simple decimal point moving. And imperial requires that you understand FRACTIONS! o_O But that's not what makes one or the other easier or better. It comes down to what you see in your mind, just like language. When I read a measurement, I can visualize the size. Even though I sometimes use a plan in metric, it's tough for me. I don't automatically know the size or distance, I have to think about it. So the base 10 math isn't an advantage because I spend so much time on just the measurement. With work, we use celsius for temp, statute miles for visability, nautical miles for distance and speed. I've used C for temp for decades, and I know 30C is a warm temp, and 15C is pretty cool, and I can do the conversion in my head. But when I check into a hotel in Europe, and I have to set the heat or A/C, I still convert to F in my head to see where I want it. And I was taught metric in elementary school because the US was going to change to it "any day now".

The law of primacy, law of use and disuse, law of recency, all apply here.

Isn't that the same width as a Model S? When I look it up it says 78.5 for the Model S

Is that possible?

I have a model S and it's tight in my garage (there's room but it's tight) was really hoping to fit the Cybertruck in there. Wasn't really counting on it though.
This gives me a hope..

Scaling a building plan in feet is a real pain, although at that point you should really be blaming the draftsman for not putting enough measurements on the plan. A plan at 1:100 gives you cm for meter, so super easy to do the math.

The other really good thing is how it works with SI units, and is uniform accross volumes, work, power, energy etc.

When we were driving the Teslas in the US, we switched it to metric. It converted the speed limits and gave us both metric and a smaller mph readout. Exactly what all cars should have.
