The unibody structure of the CT simply was not designed to hold a larger pack. Improvements in battery density/ efficiency won’t get it there either, as both have largely plateaued in the past few years, despite record investment in R&D, etc.

Embarrassing. Zero reason not to put a larger pack, especially with $ per Kw being at the lowest in history. In terms of range, Tesla will already be behind the current competition.

Yep, Tesla has a likely excess of cells for the start of the ramp, and 4680 is ramping fast now, to the point that soon they will need to find places to put them, because not the Model Y, Cybertruck and Semi combined will be able to absorb the 300 GWh they have ramping and in development

On top of that, with ~57 kWh difference, between the ~300 miles and the ~500 miles version is higher than $5000, Tesla makes more money by selling only the higher version one

I see a lot of talk about the likely 150 mile towing range of the CT being "good enough" for users but I haven't seen any discussion about how users are going to charge on their trips when towing.

Is Tesla install pull through chargers?

Because without that the options appear to be either disconnecting the trailer load every time the vehicle needs to be charged, which is a time consuming laborious process.... or, simply pulling the CT into multiple stalls or blocking traffic... both of which are going to anger other drivers.

They scrapped Model Y 4680 because all the cells that went into it were made at Kato Rd in California, they took the production line down there and are outfitting it to produce gen 3 4680s

Secondly, if Tesla just put the 4680 V2s (aka Cybercells) on the 4680 Model Y, it would be quite close to the 2170 LR version, so they could just make LR ones, you as a customers wouldn't know or care what pack is in it

Thirdly, even with the new compact car, Tesla will still have a lot of cells on their hands

It has been talked about a lot. Those pull-thru stalls take up a lot of space and the layout is complicated VS when you are just adding 8-12 pedestals in a straight line on the edge of an existing parking lot.

There are some Superchargers with pull thru and they are adding more but very little on the whole (https://supercharge.info/changes). I've towed (U-haul trailer) on weekdays at off hours and have been on the end or blocked a couple pedestals. There were always 3+ extra pedestals available when I did that AND I stayed with the vehicle if the need to move arises.

Obviously this is a problem. If I had this issue long term (camper, etc), I would get an electric tongue jack for sure. With the right rear camera unhooking and hooking up could be fairly fast.

Convenience is not cheap.

Think of the markup at a convenience store compared to a grocery store.
There are places I have driven that there is 80-90 miles between gas stations.

If you can charge at home, why wouldn't you? Wouldn't that be the most convenient?

If I forget to charge my car or phone, I have to deal with the consequences, so it makes me make sure that both are charged as needed.

Charging them both while I am sleeping and not using either is the most convenient for me...

But, as they say, YMMV.

More convenient for most people yes, but for me I have to navigate down an alley to park my S at the charger in back, but parking on the street at my front door and using free supercharging while I am shopping is much more convenient, cheaper and even greener since Tesla offsets all supercharging with renewables. It will be a different story when I get a Cybertruck, but since it will be replacing a 1999 F150, not the S, it will still be a plus, though a rather expensive one I'm afraid.

They have enough on their plate to get into trailers. Airstream is working on one and I'm sure others will too.

If trailer companies need components, I rather see a partnership with multiple trailer companies to provide packs and motors at some point down the line (when supply allows).

Development by or in conjunction with Tesla would open up connectivity with great potential for unified control by the truck MCU and operating system.
