Like others have said Tesla never promoted it as waterproof or water resistant. Just secure to prevent theft.

When I’ve gone camping using my old Chevy Suburban, we’d still have everything sorted and packed in containers for ease of packing. Nothing was just loose in the back unless it was too large for a container. No chance of anything getting wet but still used containers. I’d do the same with the Cybertruck. To me, the fact that it locks and is motorized is more important than the possibility that something may get wet. Having to lift one of those heavy toppers that the supports inevitably go out on just to have it prevent access to the back without ducking under it at 6’4” is a no go for me. At least we now know to protect the stuff back there during the rainy season.

Tesla never promised us round tires either but it's kind of how things work. A bed cover is meant to be pretty much waterproof and protect what's inside from damage. They designed and installed a bed cover that cant be removed and zero after market options and likely wont be any options due to it's style of design and now have responses like yours. "Well i do it this way so it's fine for me i don't care if they designed it badly as i don't need that feature" I cant wrap my head around this line of thinking. A sensible response would be "Yeah that's not idea for the people who require a watertight bed cover and hopefully they can fix it as production ramps" But no cant have do that. Would rather put up with it leaking and act like it's the norm.

the videos show the bed
I am looking at bed covers for my current NART (not a real truck), the Honda Ridgeline, and absolutely none of the bed covers claim to be water proof. All I have seen can let trickles of water in under certain conditions. I never expected the CT cover to be 100% water proof. I have not seen any images of more than trickles so far. I'd be ok with that.
The videos show the bed pretty much soaked. Anything in there would likely be damaged or not usable. But yes i guess because some 3rd rate after market cover cant keep the water out then the $120k cyber truck should follow that line of thinking.

It does look like a solid product. What part of the bed does it take up? Do you mean for the railing mechanisms?
The rail mechanism is fine and has a nice T slot for attachments. The box it all rolls into takes up the top front of the bed like a tool box.

The storage box has drain tubes that go into the forward bed drain holes to route any water that might get into the system.

Would anyone object to a highly water resistant vault cover? Would anyone object to better range, faster charging etc.. as pointed out by likely buyers like me on this fORUM?

Tesla set expectations over 4 years. With an aspirational product like The CT some misses were inevitable. Some of those misses will be corrected in the near future Validating the confidence of acolytes.

The misses that cannot be fixed will have to be factored into each prospective buyers decision process just like any other vehicle. The tone of Hubris exuded by Tesla and fan boys becomes irritating when we try to have an objective discussion. Specifically Tesla devotees make too many excuses For the misses and purposeful miscommunications by Tesla as a marketing technique. For me it is just another TRUCK!!

Your response is no different than mine as we both address our individual use cases. It is “pretty much water proof” like you believe they should be. If you do require a watertight bed cover then obviously this truck is not for you. At least you found out now. I’m tired of hearing people complain about different parts of the truck like they’re obligated to buy it. The truck is the truck. We all have parts that work or don’t work and have to decide whether or not it’s a deal breaker. No manufacturer can design a truck that meets a million people’s individual needs. If it’s not what you want or doesn’t meet your needs then ok. A Rivian doesn’t meet my individual needs but I’m not gonna complain about them not doing this or that. I just won’t buy one.

Oh ok. Lose a little bed space but keeps everything secure and dry. Nice.

That is the problem I am dealing with. It appears many others are also.

Yeah, they didn't "promise me a rose garden", right? There is a probably a country song in this whole pickup truck ordeal, lol.

I REALLY do like so much about the CT, the looks most of all. As an aside, those that discount the 4ws have not experienced it, wife has it on her AUDI and it is a game changer. But I would rather have a quieter cabin and a smoother ride than a killer stereo, that's just me.

I am weighing options, luckily, I have some time (my order was about 75 days after the reveal) ....

-keep my old F150 and maybe buy a model "S"
-I like Lightning so I am scheduling a test drive
-likewise for the Rivian, though I fear it may be too small
(wish I could get the CT test drive!)

Though I think the likelihood very, very small; Tesla could suspend the production of the CT to work some of these problems before too many of these "problematic" vehicles reach the public. Come to think of it, that is kind of what they are doing with a very slow production ramp up.

Anyhow, for now, I am waiting with my fingers crossed. I do hope to get the CT.
I hear you. I doubt that Tesla would suspend production regardless of the “issues” people are finding with the CT.

Tesla and Apple are very similar! They both love to beta test with their early customers. :)

I hope it all works out for you man! Hopefully you find the truck that fits you the best!

Yeah but how many of those were motorized and retractable?

I’m no engineer but I think that having both those things are a really hard ask.

Seems to me that you could have either waterproof or motorized retractable?

Any engineers wanna chime in here?
I have a powered retractable tonneau on my Lightning. It is not waterproof or dust proof . I’m guessing I was just being realistic by thinking neither would the CT’s vault cover.

LOL, this place. Beyond the pro FUDsters... I'll never understand why people spend their days in a community trying to tell people why they are wrong for liking a product.. ?‍♂

Now on to the topic...

I've had a bunch of pickup trucks... many with Tonneau covers, and none that were ever water proof(i've never had a hard top). I did not expect or assume a waterpoof Tonneau on the CT, it had not even occured to me. So i guess.... yay?

Just like its not bulletproof - why is this a surprise or a concern that its not an air locked chamber?

Let's see, besides low range, a high price, a too small (but dry) frunk, a "no ramp" tailgate, and now we have to cope with a tonneau cover that leaks whenever it rains. I really need a pickup to move things that have to stay dry, pinball machines, tools, etc. The problems are starting to mount.

I appreciate the apologists' excuses, I get it, and I too am heavily invested in $TSLA, but GEEZ, TESLA, come on!
Don't forget they straight lied about home power share! It's only included if you live where one of their installers works. If not you don't get anything except free super charging for a couple months with a truck that takes hours to super charge.

No you're wrong. Power share is just a free option as if you add up the cost of all the parts you get you are getting the powershare for free so if you don't get it you are actually getting some free super charging for a year but it''s not slow it's just waiting for updates as that's a feature right now to keep it slow for testing. Plus no one needs power share anyway as i don't need it.

No they stated at home power share hardware is included, installation is not. If you do not live in an area with a certified installer or say you want to install yourself they will not give you the parts that was a lie. They said it was included. If the parts are not included then it's not included. And it is important to lot of people. Me being one of them.

That's the problem with you guys. You don't see a single fault any issues that come out. it could have a 100mile range and take hours to charge and you guys would see it as a good thing as it just means you get more chance for breaks on trips. i cant wrap my head around the commitment you form to Tesla. They ain't your friends
Oh BS. You don’t know us. You have no idea what motivates the people on this board any more than I do.

I have a 2018 M3 that looks like it was put together by a drunk toddler. You know what I didn’t do? I didn’t go to a Tesla MB and piss, whine and moan about it. it has its faults but it has its pluses too and I’m cool with it.

the CT isn’t perfect but it has enough to make people happy and want to drive it. Why do you care if they do? If you don’t then don’t get one but stop with the MB tantrums. You’re acting like a petulant child.

Also Barri, when you typed that you didn’t want to be associated with Tesla people blah blah blah, then why in the AF are you still here commenting on this TELSA message board?

Stop acting like a dick.
