A leaky vault cover is of dubious value if you do not live in a dessert. It is fine for security and aerodynamics but will let my valuables get wet, LOL. If Tesla starts offering a car port should we expect it to leak?

Meh, not an issue at all, and I live in rainy Oregon. If I had an ICE truck right now, I wouldn’t have a Tonneau or a canopy, so I having the CT Tonneau that is secure is just a bonus.
But that is for my uses, not everyone else’s

Let's see, besides low range, a high price, a too small (but dry) frunk, a "no ramp" tailgate, and now we have to cope with a tonneau cover that leaks whenever it rains. I really need a pickup to move things that have to stay dry, pinball machines, tools, etc. The problems are starting to mount.

I appreciate the apologists' excuses, I get it, and I too am heavily invested in $TSLA, but GEEZ, TESLA, come on!

Making a regular truck bed waterproof and secure is a long solved problem.
Deciding to have a rolling tonneau cover makes it harder to choose the other options and not making it waterproof compounds the problem.
Having a secure tonneau is enough for some folks, but not for others. Count me in the "not" group.
All of my trucks have had a removable waterproof cover for when I needed it - because that's my choice to make.

So you’re not gonna get it then?

I mean I appreciate what you’re saying but where and when did Tesla ever say the vault was going to be waterproof?

I feel like this is complaining that the seats are self cooling but don’t massage my ass cheeks. Come on Tesla! Do better! I know it’s a bad analogy but my point is that so many people get exprxr to have their cake and eat it to with EVERYTHING from Tesla on this truck and I think that’s not reasonable . No matter the cost.

In a side note, I love that this was the ad on this particular thread just now!

My taco bed cap is resistant to a hose-down, and I would want no less for the ct tonneau cover
A bed cap is significantly different design from a tonneau cover.

Anyone-- link please to a waterproof (and dustproof) tonneau cover-- for any legacy pickup truck.

Having a cover on the bed of any pickup is typically to secure and protect, including from the rain... so, not having it be waterproof is a bit of an oversight IMO. Not really sure where the 'Tesla never SAID it would be waterproof' somehow ok's it. I think it would have been somewhat implied.

I'm sure it's a serious challenge to solve, just like how the X's gull wing rear doors leaked into the interior when opened until Telsa found a way to fix it.

Not sure if it will keep me from ordering, but it is something that needs to be solved.

That is the problem I am dealing with. It appears many others are also.

Yeah, they didn't "promise me a rose garden", right? There is a probably a country song in this whole pickup truck ordeal, lol.

I REALLY do like so much about the CT, the looks most of all. As an aside, those that discount the 4ws have not experienced it, wife has it on her AUDI and it is a game changer. But I would rather have a quieter cabin and a smoother ride than a killer stereo, that's just me.

I am weighing options, luckily, I have some time (my order was about 75 days after the reveal) ....

-keep my old F150 and maybe buy a model "S"
-I like Lightning so I am scheduling a test drive
-likewise for the Rivian, though I fear it may be too small
(wish I could get the CT test drive!)

Though I think the likelihood very, very small; Tesla could suspend the production of the CT to work some of these problems before too many of these "problematic" vehicles reach the public. Come to think of it, that is kind of what they are doing with a very slow production ramp up.

Anyhow, for now, I am waiting with my fingers crossed. I do hope to get the CT.

Well, of the half-dozen F-150 aftermarket bed covers I have had were very water tight. When you go camping, you want your stuff to stay dry. I spent many years in the PNW, and if it isn’t raining, it is going to rain soon. What can you store back there if it won’t stay dry? Oh, I was wondering if they deliver the FSCT with the wall charger and other V2H hardware in the back. Guess not because the boxes would get wet. Too bad. For as many years as they spent developing this sucker they sure missed a couple of key points. No worries. I’m checking my app to see if I have a VIN yet!
Like others have said Tesla never promoted it as waterproof or water resistant. Just secure to prevent theft.

When I’ve gone camping using my old Chevy Suburban, we’d still have everything sorted and packed in containers for ease of packing. Nothing was just loose in the back unless it was too large for a container. No chance of anything getting wet but still used containers. I’d do the same with the Cybertruck. To me, the fact that it locks and is motorized is more important than the possibility that something may get wet. Having to lift one of those heavy toppers that the supports inevitably go out on just to have it prevent access to the back without ducking under it at 6’4ā€ is a no go for me. At least we now know to protect the stuff back there during the rainy season.

I’ve been informed by several drivers that the vault isn’t waterproof, posing a significant concern. As a contractor looking to store my tools, it’s disheartening that a truck would lack a waterproof trunk. Disappointed in Tesla—sometimes it feels like they oversell features like full self-driving that don’t actually exist. Enough is enough.
How do you guys feels about it?
Disappointing for sure!

A quality tonneau should be mostly waterproof.

Yes, must have butt cheeks massaged. Willing to trade leaky tonneau cover for this!

I am looking at bed covers for my current NART (not a real truck), the Honda Ridgeline, and absolutely none of the bed covers claim to be water proof. All I have seen can let trickles of water in under certain conditions. I never expected the CT cover to be 100% water proof. I have not seen any images of more than trickles so far. I'd be ok with that.
