As of 1:35pm update, there hasn't been any new active VINs on the continuous scan list. ERCOT put this statement yesterday. Idk if this or the holiday is the reason for no new VINs so far today. We might see a delayed start tomorrow if it was solely based on the ERCOT notice.

Giga Austin's megapacks are not online as of 1/10 per Joe Tegtmeyer

If we look at solar capacity in Austin, it's starting around 9am and ending around 7pm. Without the megapacks online, 9am-7pm would be the best time to operate from solar and warmest temperatures. It we dont see more tomorrow, maybe there is a process that can't be performed below freezing. Things warm up on Wednesday so the Cowboy's tears can melt and cybertruck can be pumping again.

Running full scan after the 2:05pm update.

VIN ignorance question:

Is there a margin of error exceeded for VINs activated but “scrapped”?
I know that if a VIN is assigned to a build through the line, and if that build fails somewhere through the line, that VIN is recycled and ascribed to a new build through the line

I do not know if the VIN is similarly recycled if instead the build eg makes it through the line and passes some initial QC, but fails at some later QC point. That said, this scenario I think is unlikely in the first place, as these sorts of last mile issues would be far more likely to make the build subject to a repair/remediation that eg identifying a failed casting or some such at this stage.

so all in all, I think the best working assumption is that we’re not seeing any essentially ghost VINs

other than the MC's. Interesting that they used production VINs for the MC builds rather than distinguishing them using the 12th digit like they did for RC.

I’m genuinely unsure it’s unusual, historically.

The “R” series release candidates are used to determine if the vehicle itself works as intended - and aren’t built entirely on the progressed line (increasingly as time goes on and the line is progressed contemporaneously). Tesla’s had “R” series in all past models, I believe.

The manufacturing candidates, in contrast, are used to validate the line itself - so a true line-built unit (even if the line itself isn’t complete or fully commissioned). I guess I can see some substantive distinction where they want to capture the line’s VIN data for each build, and designate as having been line-built? They’ve not used an eg “M” VIN designation with past models.

Separately, what *is* unique with the CT is that the “Foundarion” units have no VIN designation. In the past these early, ‘special edition,’ builds have been called “Founders” or “Signature” series, with a VIN designation of “F” or “S”. Unsure why the Foundation CT’s are an aberration on this point.

but yes, the built MCs are sort of a ghost in that they’re not actually relevant to customer-owners, while the place-held MC vins that didn’t get used are just … there

unless Tesla decides to circle back and use those VINs anyway for FS

Tesla’s vin coding has always been a bit special. For awhile the model 3 dual motor and performance trims were coded the same which did help with insurance initially but they caught on pretty fast.

How do I find what's activated and what's not activated? I searched NHTSA's website and every random VIN I input tells me it's a Cybertruck using the first 12 or so of their VIN. I don't see where it says activated or not.

im not sure what you’re putting in nor what response it’s giving

but a valid VIN, only mathematically, will return one screen

a valid and activated VIN, returns a different screen

I suspect you’re getting the former and not the latter

This morning we are seeing a continuation of 1082, 1083.... It seems like they are moving back and forth on VIN strings. Idk how to classify the VINs we have seen >= 1225.

On a personal note, my brother in law has been in critical condition since 12/30 (complications from the flu and septic shock) and will pass today. He's only 33 years old and leaves behind a wife and 4 year old son (my godson). My father in law was also in critical condition from the same complications but has been improving.

I'll continue to poll for VINs but the next few days might not be my best work. If you don't see an update, it might just mean I'm busy with family stuff.
