Yeah, but what's the bet this is how they weasel out of the 7k FSD price lock. You can't take FSD on delivery to qualify for the tax credit, and you can't take FSD after while keeping the 7k price.
And who says that the Foundation folks are getting the $7k price?

Let's say that there was never a Foundation Series. Tesla would be going through the EXACT SAME steps of sending you a message that it is time to order.

They did it with the Model Y
They did it with the Model 3
And probably with earlier models.

This may be your first visit to the rodeo, but it isn't mine.

If you order AWD now and the FSD, you're out 7500+ other discounts depending on state of purchase. If you defer FSD to after purchase, you will pay current market price for FSD at $12000. ?
Pretty sure that no one has any idea at this time.

Oh I don't assume the foundation buyers are getting 7k pricing on that. Not at all. They for sure are counting FSD as a 12k value for the foundation series.

Was ready to try this but this seems pretty hit or miss. Don't want the FS and don't want to be stuck with the option of taking it or moving to the back of the "line."
Yeah, it's not exactly customer friendly.
Hey that truck you've been waiting four years for, you can place an order for now but it's quite a bit more money now, we're going to tack on an extra $20k to that higher price if you want to cut in line but we want another 50k if you try to sell it, we're going to tell you as little as possible about it, what the extra 20 grand gets you and exactly how it all works.
It seems like that's why they increased the price to actually place the order from $250 to $1,000. If they were confident no one would have any questions after placing the order, it seems they could have left it at the lower price. Folks are taking deliveries without good info on range, charging, what happens to your place in line if you do or don't place a foundation order, what hardware exactly you get or don't get if they don't think they can install it, oh and there may be a imminent change to the battery pack.

I wonder how long you can delay your order? What happens to your place in line, if you delay your order? More questions, I'm guessing they will never put the answers to in writing. But hey it's only a hundred grand, they're under no obligations to give you all the details.

Come on, Tesla's. just a little Mom and Pop trying to scrape by, quit trying to nickel and dime them over every little thing they promised or implied.

Even if you did this, you'll be delaying getting your Cybertruck for at least 1-2 years.

Not sure what this is accomplishing other than wanting to save $20K, and if that's the case, if $20K is a big deciding factor of an almost $100K truck then it's probably not a purchase that you should even be responsibly considering. That's just my opinion.

I don’t think this is true for me. I got my invite email today and I ordered and called Tesla. They had to put my on hold and ask management. They said you cannot change to a non-Foundation. You can only delay the Foundation.
At least that’s what they told me.
I'd be curious how long you could delay the foundation? Seems like a lot of learning lessons from YouTube testing and I'd rather hold off and not be an early adopter but still want the foundation. Should I reach out before vin being assigned?

It will be 27.5K savings (if we get the POS rebate). That is the price a used M3. Not everyone want to through money out the window. Maybe that is why I have so much.

Such a cool looking truck but so many disappointing details and worries about being the first group to be the Guinea pig.
I can assure you that the FS group is definitely an early adopter test bed lol. Tesla is being very selective and methodical for a reason.

My personal opinion is that they have high hopes of getting up to a 20% boost in range from recent developments in the 4680. They really want to avoid mass production and fragmenting their buyers.

How disappointing would it be if the first 10,000 buyers have a 20% range hit? They don't need that negative press.

From the order spreadsheet, it's almost at 1,000. Who knows how many FS series there are. But if it ends at 1,000 and I'd have to wait an extra month or two to get a non-FS, I'd rather do that.
But I ordered in case it takes another year to get one in case they keep selling FS for as long as people are willing to pay the extra 20k and lose out on the $7,500 for the AWD.

I bought FSD for a month to try out and I really didn't love it. So I could do without that 7k (the price when I reserved)
And the 35" and tires, nice but I'd be fine with whatever the non-FS will come with.
The power only goes out a few times a year from monsoons and it's only a few hours max, so Powershare is cool but I wouldn't pay for it.
White interior I love as my Tesla has white interior.

So we'll see what happens.

How's it throwing money out the window?

You get the upgraded wheels, FSD, lightbar, powershare hardware/charger/$4k install credit (if qualified), tons of accessories, etc AND 1-2 years of driving the truck before the masses of them get on the road.

Look how many people pay $30-50K over sticker for the latest and greatest vehicles such as a Raptor R, and the only thing they get is a handshake from the greedy dealership who took their money in exchange for getting the vehicle sooner.

$20K is peanuts for getting the truck sooner before there's a million on the road AND you actually get the value of additional features and accessories.

But that just goes back to my initial point, if $20K is a deciding factor, then maybe the price of this thing is stretching you a bit too much financially and that's fine, the additional years to wait for the truck will allow you to save up a few more bucks for the truck anyway.

Yeah, this is not a thread on how to hack your way to the front for non fs cts lol. My original post was in response to another thread about a gentleman getting cold feet once his vin was assigned. I, like many others, got my FS order email and freaked out after waiting for years, looked over my finances and determined I can in fact go through with the $115k purchase of the AWD. After doing so, continued to watch countless YouTube videos and read into the forums, and started to already feel some sort of buyers remorse lol. Plus Teslas Point of Sale tax credit started to kick in and I started seeing sub $40k model Ys and sub $80k model Xs. And man, waiting another year or so for the regular CT with a 27.5k difference didn’t sound so bad! So I decided to stop listening to what others were saying and call Tesla myself. I called 3 different Tesla stores here in California, Covina, Pasadena and Irvine and all the reps told me I could get rid of my FS once my VIN was assigned. Is there a chance they could be wrong? Of course, Tesla could put the hammer down at any moment. However, Coolbreeze was able to down grade his, as we seen through his text messages. Now it’ll all be more clear once he gets the new docs. I think a lot of people on here are just calling sales reps and getting the “NO” answer. But remember you are talking to the sales team. I personally have not gotten a text message for my CT order, but when I do I will ask that rep if I can downgrade. If not, I’ll call those other 3 reps and see what they can do for me lol.

hmmmm, this doesn't sound right. I'm curious, in your Tesla app, what does it look like when you click 'vehicle details' under your res #?

yall quit making mountains out of molehills

OP is clearly not suggesting that anyone should rely as gospel on anything that any Tesla rep says to anyone - even if the person you get happens to know what they're talking about today, nothing says Tesla doesn't change its mind tomorrow (as they're known to do)

based on that imperfect information, people have to roll their dice in one direction or the other

OP has as reasonable a roll here as anyone in a similar posture

in fact, some of y'all critiquing the OP's dice roll and info relay here are doing so based on information that is itself wrong.
