Plan for using 12v accessories with 48v wiring in the CT?

Searched the forum and didn’t see a thread on this yet which surprised me. Sorry if I missed it somehow and this is a repost, in which case perhaps just link to the other thread as a response.

I’ve “done my own research” (*insert eye-roll ? here) and contacted a few accessory companies that make truck stuff and exterior lights and interior accessories, etc. Seems like pretty much nobody at the usual accessory companies had even heard that the CT has 48v architecture instead of 12v and none had plans to develop 48v compatible versions of their products to target the CT market of the companies I reached out to. They all pretty much said “go find your own convertor if you want to use our products with the CT,” more or less.

Now I realize that the EV companies making 3rd party products will probably eventually catch on and make some, but the variety and options are unlikely to be out there as they are with other trucks/vehicles for quite some time, it would seem.

So… I did a little more searching online and it looks like the convertors that are available have fairly low wattage capacity and are made for those living the van life. It also seems like the power draw from using some of these is really inefficient so with the range not being what many had hoped then aftermarket accessories may have the potential to become a bit of a range liability without an efficient, safe, conversion box of some sort to step down the DC voltage so that typical items from the aftermarket can be made to work with the CT… if at all. I also saw some comments that some of the versions of convertors on the market may even be a fire hazard and probe to failure.

So what are people’s plans in this regard? Has anyone found a good product as a solution? Anyone out there who is better with electricity calculations and wiring and familiar with how this would work enough to comment and educate the rest of us?

Curious to hear the community’s thoughts on this and learn something. Thanks in advance for all input and answers to follow.

Cheers

billion dollar industry to change their 12 volt vehicle accessory products to accommodate 1 vehicle?. LOL It's not going to happen any time soon and don't see any other vehicle makers changing their product to 48 volt any time soon. It's easy to get a converter/transformer to step down to 12 volt on lights, etc so it will be up to the individual to modify which is very easy to do. All in one light bar with built in transformer will happen.

Yes…. And I was looking for more specific thoughts on specific converters that will be safe, not cause too much battery drain in and of themselves, and have enough power capacity for several accessories, in the event that anyone knows of any.

It’s not that I’m surprised that there aren't more products at this point, but given the number of people that want to buy “American-made” products and the popularity or pickup trucks in general I thought SOME companies might realize that the first to the market with products for one of the most “Made in the USA” trucks out there at this time might position themselves to be ahead of their competitors. No dice though so far at least as much as I can tell.

I've got a 48V -> 120V 3kW inverter running downstairs. There are options.

But them again you have to play within Tesla's sandbox.

This is a USB-C to cigarette lighter port that I’m considering to hook up a tow camera. Should work, right?

I wouldn’t be using the frunk specifically unless it was the best place to mount an adapter.

what accessories?

Any manner of exterior lights, rock lights, reverse lights, light bars, etc.

Possible stereo upgrades if you want to power a conversion of the ported subs to sealed subs.

pretty much any interior accessories that don’t plug into a USB port such as a radar detector, CB, or potentially a portable HAM radio for those interested.

a reverse video camera replacement for the rear view mirror.

Reviver R Plate if you are in a state that allows a rear digitial license plate

if you want a motorized hide away front license plate

If you want to upgrade your horn or add a glydesphere

etc.

I am sure there are others. Off the top of my head, that’s what I got.

Not quite, it has a 48V socket that if it detects 12V, it will engage a 12->48V inverter.
The aux ports are 48V.

Ford T3 BlueOval TN/KY would me my guess.
