I recently took delivery of the 2024 CyberTruck. I understand these 4680 batteries have the new NMC 955 chemistry. When I took delivery, the Tesla rep said I should charge the 4680 batteries to 100% once a week. This doesn’t make sense (given study results on changing other NMC batteries) and I won’t follow this advice until I get additional information to back up Tesla’s recommendation.

Has anyone else been given this advice from Tesla?

Has anyone seen in writing, from Tesla, their advice on recommended charging practices for the CT?

Still NMC tech, so I plan to stick to 70-80

That would be very good to know; if Tesla is officially changing its charging recommendations for NMC battery chemistries. But how do you know that your truck has the 995 chemistry?

Did your delivery person tell you this? We know it is coming but haven't seen confirmation it happened. If you got one of the first NMC955 we should see some (even if small) improvement compared to earlier CTs. Please keep us posted on your range/charging details as you get some data!

Well that's interesting, if that advice came from Tesla we should be hearing more about it soon I would expect. I've studied battery chemistry, but not the 4680's.

No, it is completely unnecessary to charge the Cybertruck to 100% once per week. When you do charge to 100%, the best practice is to use scheduled charging timed to your departure, so the batteries don't sit around at 100% charge for long. I often leave when it's still finishing up the last 1% or so. One of our 2018 Model 3 Long-Ranges, with 72,000 miles on the odometer, came with 310 miles of range and still charges up to 305-306 miles. And it will get that or more in mild weather at 60-65 mph.

Never believe what a single Tesla employee tells you unless it is supported by other reliable confirmation. It could be a misunderstanding on your part, or the employee might not be properly informed. That's also generally good advice when speaking to employees of ANY company. If I'm interested in the company's products, I almost always know more about them then the employees hired to help potential customers know about their own products. This is normal, unfortunately.

What is your approximate vin number? Would be worthwhile to see if anyone with one after yours was told something similar.

I do not know for sure the chemistry is NMC 955. My comment is based upon the following …..

https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/new-4680-battery-chemical-makeup-coming.11142/
All of those reports originated from a comment made by a Tesla employee in the cell plant to Joe T. They were not official releases (as though there ever are) and Joe was just sharing that Tesla had shifted a line over. There is no evidence that they are going into cars. They might eventually and that is as much as anyone knows.
