There are a lot of Turo renters out there that want clicks. This truck is prefect off the factory floor as Elon intended it to be. It’s why we bought the best quality truck in America.
My Trolldar is off the charts..

That's some top-notch critical thinking.
Top tier mental gymnastics it seems..

I think the build quality is pretty Tesla.
I have an early model s plaid and it went through multiple upgrades like door seals, hinges, charge ports, yoke to name a few. Just part of their engineering approach, annoying but it’s what you get with Tesla.

My concern, while waiting to see if this is a widespread issue (or not), is that I want to attach a Ham Radio Antenna using a Trunk Lip mount (like a Diamond K9000TM)., on these pieces. Due to air resistance on the antenna, there would be increased loads on that glue joint. Part of me says the loads S.B. pretty insignificant overall; but another part of me says that having it mounted would cloud the issue if mine came off. This kind of derails my antenna project for now...

I don't like that Tesla used adhesive on the body panels. I literally know nothing about the type, quantity, or bonding properties of the adhesive used. After saying that, most windshield and skyscraper glass panels are held in place with glue. Since glued on heavy glass panels don't come flying off with any frequency, I'm left with a concern not for the fact they used adhesive, but that they are coming unglued so soon - hopefully a batch application issue. I guess time will tell.

You got to put those skyscrapers on wheels and send them offroading, then check how many windows are left.

As a potential CT buyer, this is alarming:

Interesting that the adhesive is failing mostly against the stainless steel and not the parts they are attached to (that have mechanical connections to the body). I wonder if somehow chemical or mechanically texture-etching the steel could help with adhesion. The mating surface of the steel looks pretty smooth.

the problem is one or more of several things: The wrong adhesive was used for the chosen materials and their intended duty, The correct adhesive was chosen but improper application technique (manufacturing or assembly flaw), or some unaccounted for environmental or mechanical variable that causes the adhesive to fail once it is in use and subjected to that variable.

either way, i cant see how this wont result in a recall. I just dont know what the fix is… i hope its not another rivet.

I had this issue.

It happened a few days after I got it wrapped so I thought it was probably just the wrap guys being too aggressive with it, but it was cold and very easy to pull off. It only happened on about the first few inches of the trim before I noticed and parked it. I might regret it later, but I put it back on with a little bit of construction adhesive and its been rock solid since then (y)

This is very disturbing, the technology on adhesives today is extreme, they make adhesives that the only way these stainless parts come off is with the structure it’s glued too.

I will be paying attention to this.

Glad I held off for many reasons, might hold off to 2026 let all of this work itself out. My S is perfectly capable until whenever I decide to move on.

The adhesive used in this application is reportedly 3M™ 08115, it has a peel strength of 30 pounds per inch of width and fractures in the glue (when tested with steel). If it delaminated from the stainless, that could indicate a lack of surface prep.
It is also listed as handling welding operations within 5cm, so it's fairly heat resistant. It can be cured at temps of 200F, wheras PPF has a recommended limit around 176F (80C).
