Both my 2024 FS Cyberbeast (made on 4/24)and my 2025 Cyberbeasts (1/25) are being recalled for the cant rail issues. Per the recall, as of 29 MAR 2025. remedy not yet available. Both wrapped. I planned on just buying the Cant rail wrap kit from TesBros and DIY them both. They're flat pieces and easily accessible. ?

I really think Tesla should offer compensation for rewrap and paint for those who require it under the recall. I've written extensively about this. I am not an attorney, or wanting to get something for 'free' from Tesla.

However, it is quite normal for people to make cosmetic changes to their vehicle as they wish. This does not void the warranty, and although I've not read the Tesla warranty, I'd believe that they don't make 'exceptions' to the paint and cosmetics with regards to repair work within the warranty.

This is a recall and not warranty work, historically recalls require the manufacturer to remedy the issue regardless to the standing of the vehicle factory warranty. There are too many cases to count Takata for example where 10,000's of vehicles required expensive remediation regardless of warranty. And weather you had duct tape on your steering wheel or a hello kitty steering wheel cover - they were compiled to remedy the issue.

It is quite clear to anyone that if your car was in for warranty work, or any other work and they damaged your vehicle, scratched the paint, or made a small dent in the fender, they are obligated to repair it. I've never heard, or had a dealer whom did damage my car cosmetically tell me 'they are not responsible for preserving the cosmetic state of me vehicle' and denied working with me to get the car cosmetically back to the state it was in when I handed them the keys.

Even Valet companies, are on the hook for preserving the cosmetic state of my car - although the nature of the contractual agreement is simply parking my car at a location that both parties don't own. The legal precedence for this is bailment.

Breech of contract and Negligence would be in effect if a dealer damaged your car in service, deliberate or otherwise. If they took off your red fenders and put on black that would clearly not be acceptable on numerous fronts.

It's clear that returning your CT to you with body parts missing matching paint / wrap depreciates the value of the vehicle. No one would argue that. I would even submit: Having Carmax or Tesla evaluate your CT for purchase with the wrap missing from the cant rails would not go unnoticed, and they would deprecate purchase price, or tell you the get the mis-matched panels fixed.

Again this recall is to remedy a mistake by Tesla : It is really odd it is a external and cosmetic body panel. And it is quite common for people to change and modify the cosmetic appearance of the vehicle. The cost of the recall is to borne by Tesla - this is not 'caveat emptor'

I don't see how they can dismiss this issue. If they had to replace my seat beats for a safety recall, they can't give me pink one's to replace the original black and tell me to deal with it.

I paid a very high premium for my Foundation CT. It has 'Foundation' branded panels and interior parts. Tesla would be obligated to preserve that should they need to replace those panels. It cannot be dismissed as insignificant or on the owner to deal with.

Regards
Jack

Are they going to force this onto customers if we bring in the car for ann unrelated matter?

My car is wrapped and the cant rail looks solid. Not too keen on doing this.
My CT is a month old so ask local Tesla Service about this cantrail issue. No reply yet.
I'm not wrapping my CT until the cantrail issue is fixed.

Just left Tesla picking up a new y juniper for my wife. They had all new deliveries with the updated part - you can see the bolt causing the canrail to pop a little. Looks like a nail pop on drywall almost. Not ideal
So it's better to forego this cantrail fix if you're not affected if you're living in a warmer climate?

I just took delivery of a new NonF cybertruck and noticed that the cantrail on one side was shorter than the other (about 1/8 inch gap on both sides) while the other side was tight and level.

Just a warning to check your contrails when they are swapped. They switched mine on the spot as it looks like a defective part. New cantrails have a spot weld mark on the A pillar side.

My wrap guy told me the cantrails were the hardest part to wrap because they are very tight fore and aft where they meet the other panels, without room to push the wrap around to the back, or even between the adjacent panels. It is also quite difficult to get the wrap to stay flat where it is wrapped over the top edge because it is a single piece/layer of steel, which makes the wrap exceedingly tight around the edge. Most other edges on the truck are double thick or bent over, so the PPF can follow the contour with less stress. I had to take mine back three times in the first week to get the PPF fixed where it had popped up above the cantrails from where it had been affixed to the backside of the cantrails.

This is the last part of the truck that I would try to wrap DIY. But I figure a couple hundred bucks and a happy detailer are worth it. Do we have a legal case with Tesla? Probably. But not worth the squeeze/hassle. It would be nice to see them offer a voucher of some sort, but I’m not gonna sweat it. Folks, we have high end toys here and this is the definition of a first world problem.

It sounds like some wrap places remove the piece to get the material tucked around the edge.

Hopefully it's just techniques needing refinement. I'll defer the recall as long as I can with both of my Cyberbeasts until my SC has had a few under their belt or updated techniques before going in for this recall:p

Anyone know if a roof rack using the roof OEM bolts has to be removed to apply the fix? If it does I’m in trouble. 8 hour install. Same to remove.
