Tesla Cybertruck Man Qmerit quote to install Powershare is insane IMG_4986

Mind you I already have 2 Tesla Universal Wall Connectors installed by a certified electrician and QMerit wants $10,885.88 to Install the Gateway which cost me a separate $2500.

Basically without Qmerit whom works with a local electrician we have no other choice correct?

Also is any of this eligible for the 30% Fed Tax Credit?

Sorry for so many questions this sticker shock is unreal!

Wow, that sounds ridiculous. I had mine done back in May 2024, it cost a total of $3650 including installation of both the Universal Wall Connector and the PowerShare Gateway.

I posted about it back when I had it done. I know it varies by region, but that sounds outrageous.
that looks far more reasonable and appropriate, I figured since I already had two Tesla universal wall connectors installed professionally my quote would be cheap, guess not! This is in south Florida.

Assuming you really need the loads backup option instead of the main circuit interrupt which is way cheaper, it's basically 3 default menu items (main circuit interrupt, light loads backup and heavy loads backup) with pre-negotiated costs.

The 3 different charges for the existing EVSE rework make no sense unless you have a crazy install. My installer charged me $285 to reuse the wiring from my existing wall connector.

My install for the main circuit interrupt flavor was $2,300. That included reusing the wiring for my old wall connector and moving 1 circuit (my 20A fridge circuit) from my 2nd 200A panel to the one being backed up.

Did the previous installer use wire that is too small for the job?

I would ask them for a detailed bid with technical explanations. If they refuse to provide that, then laugh and tell them to kick rocks.

I'm starting to see a pattern with qmerit. seems they are operating under the assumption of a niche monopoly. Tesla needs to squash this ASAP.

$300ish for a GFCI breaker install?? That seems high. I asked for another quote from Qmerit and they contacted another installer and got a much cheaper quote.

That does look crazy. How far are the wall connectors from the panel and are the wires in conduit or NM-B (romex) type?

I had a local neighborhood licensed electrician install my 2nd Gen 2 HPWC in my small garage for the CT, while I was still waiting on my Powershare Gateway to ship. It's a 75' run since my panels are in the main 2-car garage and the 1-car garage is on the other side of the house. To save on install, I had him run ~75' of #3 Al NM-B wire to a 60A disconnect right next to the HPWC and then ~4' of #4 Cu MC for the final leg since neither the Gen 2 HPWC nor the UWC is rated for Al conductors. My other Gen 2 HPWC is #6 THHN (#10 THHN ground) in 1" EMT that I installed myself. The installer that Qmerit connected me with said either was sufficient for the UWC install.

You and I live in the same area….Coral Electric did mine thru Qmerit but complete project was 6,700$ Inasmuch I got the 4k installation credit and 2.5k Gateway/powerwall voucher I did not feel the pain. My suggestion is you go to Coral Electric directly. They are a certified Tesla Installer. No telling how much Qmerit commissioned from the deal.

yes, good point i’ll def ask, this totally seems like a money grab. I have no problem paying the amount, but it seems like I’m getting taken for a ride which kind of pisses me off.

Do you have 2 HPWCs setup to load share? I assume that EMT is continuing on to something else further down the circuit? As long as that is #6 THHN in that conduit, that's sufficient for Powershare. You might need to run it separately from a 2nd HPWC (if that's what it is), since I don't know if load sharing on the UWC and Powershare are compatible.

Looks like your setup is otherwise similar to mine, 320A service split into 2 200A panels? Did you choose the Heavy Loads Backup install option or did they? Your panels look to be a mix of both high and low loads, buy my install is mostly low loads in 1 panel and high loads in the 2nd, so I had them go with the Main Breaker Separation install, which makes my 1st 200A panel a sub to the gateway. Since my 2nd panel had mostly the loads I didn't want backed up (minus the fridge circuit I had moved) it was a no-brainer. If you have a mix of loads from both panels you want backed up, the heavy loads backup might make sense, but I have no idea why it is so much more expensive than the main breaker separation install.
