For anyone looking for a great read, there is a FSD Cannonball protocol being put together, I’ve been following Alex Roy since he’s been doing cannonball runs since the early 2000’s, this article is a really good read:

Disengagement Criteria

Several autonomous vehicle developers have courted disaster by undertraining test drivers, and/or incentivizing them not to intervene, thereby juicing system performance metrics.

Having gone through rigorous AV safety driver training multiple times during my 4 years as an executive at AV developer Argo AI, I am confident in my ability to safely supervise Tesla FSD for long periods and voluntarily disengage only when absolutely necessary. These protocols were shared with C. Fox over numerous practice sessions.

This is how we classify Disengagements (DE’s):

• (IVDE) Involuntary
• (VDE) Voluntary, for Charging
• (VDE) Voluntary, Safety-Related
• (VDE) Voluntary, Navigation-Related

I’m not sure if an F-150 would get 18 MPH going 80 so it’s estimating around 14 mpg based on winter tires and wind at 22 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

I took a 1000-mile journey on FSD yesterday, it was great.

I kept disengaging because it was trying to divert to different Superchargers than the one I chose as the destination. I finally figured out I had the “Trip Planner” enabled lol.

Agreed that is does weird things with speed control; sometimes it would enter a lower speed zone without slowing, but then 30 seconds later go “oh, shit” and slow down. Or, it would go from a 35MPH zone to a 45 then a 55 and still not speed up. But just a nudge on the throttle and it would take off. Weird, but never “dangerous”. (Does tapping the throttle or changing the Speed Profile count as an “intervention”?)

Similar story, I just made a trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone National Park.
So about 1,000 miles, 20 hours driving including charging,
it was very relaxing journey, with two drivers taking turn.

I had HW3, so no Start button, but still no disengagement for most of the driving,
except for navigating inside a Supercharger location or a parking lot restaurant.

I arrived at home like if I have spend my day in front of my computer at work.

Most of the Highways have two lanes, so you spend your time passing trucks,
and moving back to your lane, and FSD is very good at doing it for you.

Also FSD is very good a driving at the posted speed and saved me many time from
getting pulled over, especially in speed traps in small towns in middle of nowhere!!!

Yes, that counts as intervention. "All input is error" or whatever.

FYI: over a thousand miles of FSD, and zero phantom wipes. Clean glass is the answer!
