New Cybertruck battery on the 2026 builds (4680 batteries)

I’m trying to figure out whether any recent Cybertruck deliveries are showing signs of the newer 4680 battery chemistry / dry-electrode pack that has been discussed over the last year.


Tesla has talked about producing 4680 cells in Austin with dry-electrode manufacturing for both the anode and cathode, and there have been reports that Cybertruck would eventually get the updated dry-cathode / newer 4680 cells. What I’m trying to determine is whether owners are actually seeing evidence of that in delivered trucks yet.


For anyone who recently took delivery, would you mind sharing:


  1. Delivery month/year
  2. Build month/year, if known
  3. Trim: AWD, Cyberbeast, or Long Range
  4. Approximate VIN range or last few digits only — please do not post your full VIN
  5. EPA/rated range shown at 100% after the truck has had time to balance
  6. Any battery pack part number, service screen info, or paperwork that appears to show a newer pack/cell revision
  7. Any noticeable charging curve, range, or efficiency difference compared with earlier Cybertrucks
  8. Whether Tesla service has told you anything about the pack version

I’m not trying to start a rumor thread. I’m just trying to collect owner-reported data to see if there is a pattern by build date or VIN range.

Probably not, I'm sure if a new battery was installed it would of made headlines as a new selling point..

When a Cybertruck pulls a heavy load, it extracts continuous, high-amperage power from the battery pack, generating massive internal heat. Under the NC20, this rapid energy drain limits the truck's continuous power output capability.

Maybe this will further differentiate premium from SAWD. Maybe SAWD can return to full time $59,990, and get the gen 1 dry cell, and Premium will remain at the current price point but get the gen 2 NC30 cell, with more power and range.

That’s exactly the way I see it unfolding in future variants of the CT.

Premium trims and CB will enjoy the NC30 battery cells. Peasant trims will continue to receive the current NC20 battery cells.

This has already been asked and answered. Yes the Cybertruck already has these new 4680 batteries.

Not really ... best guess is only mid to late 2026 Cybertruck will have the dry anode/cathode chem. Don't forget the primary benefit is cost reduction although some charging advantages may occur as the process evolves. My Feb 2026 build is getting the full EPA range of 320 miles at 100% SOC.

I'm only 3K miles in but I have been very pleased with range and charge speed thus far. It seems a bit better than my 2025 Model Y in achieving the full EPA range with vault closed, standard rims and tires. Speaking of tires, I picked up a large screw in the middle of the left front tire. Luckily and on a whim, I had elected to get the tire rim protection offered by Tesla a month ago so the tire replacement (happening today) is N/C. I chose the policy as I am planning some road trips this summer and wanted to be covered.

Dry Cathode was necessary cost reduction for Tesla to offer the $59k Cybertruck, so I suspect all the standard AWD models have dry cathode, and I suspect the entire line of CT's is now using the new cells. As been mentioned I don't think there is any real performance difference between the Cybercell V2 which is actually around 268 Wh/kg, not the 240 mentioned above by AI.

If there are performance differences between the cell types, Tesla could potentially be hiding it to avoid people getting upset over model differences at this point due to potential OSBORNE or FOMO. We won't know until we know, and right now there is no concrete information on when they'll release new battery technology.

What this really means is that after the Cybertruck body is completely worn out, as road transportation, the battery can still serve high quality second life as backup power. These will be parked next to every off grid home, and barn, and possibly some businesses with uninterruptible power supply needs.

You have to wonder what new cells the new Roadster will have to get that huge range they are estimated to get for such a small battery pack.
