According to experts, range will be less than half of what's estimated pulling any trailer. Has to do with extreme turbulance between the tailgate and front of trailer. This is the reason for the aerodynamic shroud on the cab of all 18 wheelers manufactured today. Aloso the boxy shape of the traditional truck causes a fast reduction in range as speed is increased. This is more promenant (sp) for EVs over ICE because the EV is more efficient, so losses are more for each percent loss. At least that's what the experts say. That's why trailering affects EVs worse than ICE.

Software options don't count toward $80k limit to get the tax credit so you can add FSD at the time of purchase and Tesla should still give you 7500 tax credit at the point of sale.

yes, they do, and it's not just software but hardware. The tax credit is based on the msrp of the vehilce with any and all options, not the "base" price..

Ending soon means stop taking orders. They haven't even gotten any tactical gray FS interiors delivered yet. They could well be delivering FS until the end of 2024.

"Next quarter" doesn't end until September 30, and that just means starting by then. When have they ever been early? Who knows what differences there may be. They could be designated 2025 model year. There's some logic to FS being "limited" meaning all 2024 model year.

It could very well be until the end of the year.

I still am curious why Tesla would stop selling FS series if there is still a demand for it. Why leave money on the table? Doesn't make much financial sense.

Call me naive but I do think they always planned on offering standard pricing once production ramped and not to just milk FS to the ground. Otherwise, they'd just standard price it crazy high to account for the hype.

CT was definitely launched early to hit a timeline. Basic software updates came out months after delivery, changes have already been made to parts and production, and we're still waiting for AutoPilot. It's not unfair to say Foundation Series drivers are testing the vehicle while getting the privilege to get a game changing product early.

Edit: Elon answered the questions pretty emphatically. Makes me optimistic that FS is indeed close to ending.

Eventually production will be more than the amount of Foundation Series purchased so that's when they will switch it. They must be seeing the amounts of FS ordered drop off. Makes sense that the first month or so of pre-orders would be the people who want it now.

I think it's kind of amazing that Tesla has made the 80k version look like a bargain. Before, it was too much, there was massive complaining. Now people are waiting for the "cheaper" version. Which is not really cheap.

I could see initially offering FS units as a percentage of overall CT pre-orders. That could explain why the total FS unit count keeps surpassing everyone’s low estimates. Right before releasing the non-FS config, they could send final FS Invitation emails to all remaining Tesla accounts to lock in what they can. I’d assume this last round of invites will come with “FS order deadline” verbiage.

Somebody asked Elon directly during the meeting about when Cybertrucks would be made available in other markets and he said "We might be able to certify it for other markets next year."

So after they scale to this 2500 per week number, efficiencies of scale should allow them to swallow the cost of localising for Australia is my guess.

If they are making 125,000 per year and there's 1,000,000 reservations that will translate into sales.

This is not naive at all. I think this is the most logical explanation of FS strategy. They were production constraint at the beginning. FS helped to manage the demand and do beta testing of the product to hammer out the kinks. Kudos to those who ordered FS knowing all the risks. I’m glad majority of them are happy they did. It’s a perfect win-win strategy.

125k/year isn't the final ramp goal - just the target for end of the year. From what I've gathered they're planning for at least a 250k/year run rate, but may eventually ramp to 500k/year if demand warrants it.
