I don’t have any problem with Tesla making money on it I’m just suggesting to you that “they know” is preposterous.
It's not preposterous, it's obvious. They don't know what the exact percentage will be of Cybertrucks that will never use the crossbar mounting points, but they know it's a low number. What's preposterous is thinking it might be a high number.

Get with the program.

Wether this is about efficiency cost cutting nefariousness or whatever, my question remains if you don’t know it’s there because there’s no hint given by the new appliqué and this isn’t advertised, how would you know? I guess it’s going to be up to third-party folks to tell people that the mounting hardware is there? That really seems counterproductive even if the idea is to just let people pay for it as an add-on.
It's obvious that this change speeds production and lowers costs, just like when Tesla discovered very few people were ever activating the passenger seat lumbar control on the Models 3 and Y, and they removed it to save on costs. In this case, it also increases profits when someone orders the trim piece with cutouts in it.

None of this should be a mystery to anyone. It's obvious.

Has anyone seen the install instructions yet? I am wondering how the Tesla bases account for differences in the mounting heights of the attachment points? My passenger side upper vault attachment point is 3/16" lower than the drivers side which impacts what is being mounted in that location.

On an accessory like a rack, I don't see that as being much of a problem. But Tesla would fix it under warranty if it were a problem

It actually is as it can be the difference between the stand piece hitting either the plastic sail panel or the side stainless panel of the truck. I can show you detail pictures if you like.

Originally you were asking how the Tesla bases for the crossbars accomodate slight variations in height. Now you are saying they don't work with slight variations in height?

In any case, Tesla will take care of you if there is a problem with fitting their racks.

Has anyone actually ordered these. I've been trying all afternoon to order (first on the iPhone Tesla and then on the internet) and none of the efforts complete.

I either get "Network Error try again later" or it says they were added to my basket but no basket is available for checkout.

Any suggestions? Thanks...

It’s down because of the Tesla Bot Action Figure. Brought the whole shop down. You can’t even log login to your Shop account.

Been that way for over four hours. People are going crazy for it.

No I'm saying variations in mounting point heights can cause a problem and I'm wondering how Tesla's mounts address this variation. Do they have slots? Spacers? Something else? Hence wondering what the install instructions might unveil in that regard.
