It's a drought. We should be getting rain right now. It's seasonal.

-Crissa
So when a drought becomes permanent due to climate change what do we call it then. Is Mars experiencing a drought still?

The camera is at an angle. You are accounting for the overhang, but not the obvious tilt of the camera..

There is about a foot of overhang which it looks like you’ve accounted for. There is also a foot of length “lost” to the camera angle. (as indicated by the amount of the inside of the tailgate you can see).
And the wind could be bending your dimension leader lines. And then there’s the curvature of the earth to consider and let’s not even start with azmiths. All to say it’s a good thing that tiny homes are trending and most home improvement stores sell smaller plywood sections and one day Ikea will rule the world so 6’ beds never need to be made. Maybe Elon was talking about the angular length of a the bed.

Is there a season, weather or climate that is permanent?
Yes. Rain would be considered a weather and the Sahara desert was once lush and green but now gets less than 1” per year. So yes there are permanent weather changes. Rain can and will continue to reduce in California i believe. I feel like we use the word drought as a comfort to make us feel like it’s temporary.

Yes we will have El Niño years and some wetter years but the very clear trend is that for decades we are getting less rain and eventually it will be very minimal.

There are a lot of interesting articles on the desertification of California and scientific estimates that show we could lose most of our forest within 30-50 years. Within the last few years we lost about 20% of the giant sequoias which have managed to last thousands of years.

I worked in the engineering department of a major local water district about 10 years ago and I talked with some of the old school engineers there and they pointed to a chart on the wall one day as we were talking about work and he said that chart is a problem. The chart showed that consistently year after year the depth of the water table aquifer in the very deep city wells has been consistently dropping for decades by tens of feet.

So yes, I definitely believe some weather changes are permanent and it doesn’t take thousands of years.

Back to the bed length.

I could see the length dropping to 6'-2", just because a lot of people think they might have/want to sleep in the bed on occasion. Elon is 6'-2 which is ~95% percentile for men. Taller people will have to deal with it.

Below this you have to open the tailgate, at which point you might as well reduce the bed length to 5'. At 5' your 8' sheet of plywood is only overhanging a foot which is manageable.

In summary my logic says it will either be between 6'-2" and 6'-6" or around 5' not much sense in having a bed that is 5'-11".

Tesla might be trying to avoid the need for the Wolverine by splitting the difference and making the turning tighter. Bringing a new car platform is a massive undertaking, plus the competition is going to get fierce. That would be why I could see a CT with a bed length in the 5' range.

Whatever the actual bed length is, the effective/ useful length is going to be about a 6 inches for most practical purposes due to that rear sloping front wall. The overhang also limits it more.

So if it was 5 foot, the vault would only have a 4 foot opening. So it would be shorter than it is wide.

Tesla Cybertruck Cybertruck prototype spotted again on Fremont track. (2/7/2022) 1644688728642

Effectively, whatever the vault opening size is, you have to add the bottom of the blue area to get the vault length at the bottom.

Does anybody know what they were doing? They had a computer there next to it. The tape on the ground doesn't make sense. Neither do the covered areas of the vehicle. Then they had all of the boxes on the ground there next to it as well. The impact testing theory doesn't make sense because it doesn't make sense to do that at that location. Somebody mentioned something about tuning cameras which might make sense because the cameras are wide-angle which explains the tape on the ground spread out in that pattern. But then why the coverings which are only on a single side?

I’ve broken some of those laws while in Texas. One of them before the Supreme court overruled it.

How is it banned by law?
Maybe with all the California's moving to Texas, Texas will get a little more purple on social issues. I am sorry there are still places where you don't feel welcomed.

I appreciate what you bring to the forum.
