I think the consolidated outlets device form factor is nice.

Tesla Cybertruck 2024 Cybertruck Official Specs Leaked?! đŸ˜± - Udated With Compare/Analysis 1699461057959

With the 240v and 120v outlets being in the same device, it's (possible) that some elegant simplicity has been designed in, where you only need three wires (2 opposite phased 120vac wires from inverters, and one wire for neutral and ground). Or there could be a separate extra fourth wire for neutral from somewhere, but it still ends up being the same as ground. Current limits of 20amps for 120vac outlets could be done within the custom device. This is of course speculation but also consistent with Tesla design ethos for simplicity and minimalism.

It will be interesting if we could get the actual specifications for the inverters powering these outlets.

great - same quip applies to all other trucks, too, people can tow a lot more than tow rating in many trucks (esp those with adaptive air leveling)

are we talking tow ratings here or when people exceed tow ratings

and who ever said that the R1T towed 15K pounds “perfectly fine” would have to talk not to me, but people who tow regularly, heavy, long distances

because the point of ‘towing well’ and tow ratings, isn’t to say what it can tow in essentially ideal or near ideal conditions

it’s to say how the truck behaves when shit hits the fan

I don’t need to argue about what the Rivian does at 11k lbs, though.

the point is that the CT is also rated at 11k lbs
My comment is in response to your calling the 11k rating “whompy”. Not saying people should tow 15K, but that at the rates 11K, it does a perfectly good job. Limit is the battery range

a full sized spare won’t fit
anywhere
other than laying in the bed
Purely fiction -
full size spare is part of Redneck Red Dirt Road Option. It will cost $1200 and It includes that rack we saw in Austin that supports get unstuck boards and a place to mount your lights and mag mount CB / Amatuer radio antenna. Full size spare attaches to the rack.
Anyone who has ever had a flat rear tire on a fully loaded pick up knows - spare tire is best stored in the bed and not under the truck.

RE whompy, see Rivian’s payloads based on configuration - they’re as low as 1,320lb

Those configurations, with a safe/recommended tongue weight of 10% of trailer weight means an 11,000 trailer would leave 220lb of payload

on a short wheelbase vehicle

I didn’t mean to offend, and I could go on to point out some things that are equally whompy on other trucks

but at the end of the day, the 11k towing stat has many asterisks for ACTUAL safe towing capacity, depending on other real-world variables

and for me, feel free to disagree, an 11k max tow rating on a vehicle with a 1,320 payload, is f’n “whompy”

R1T payload is 1764 lbs.

2024 Tesla Cybertruck Specs Sheet Dimensions Length Width weight.jpg

01c2dd81-e9bc-43f0-8db1-924f20608868-jpeg.jpg

EDIT TO ADD:

Have bolted up a compare (in heat map) of interior dimensions:

As suspected (by some) for a while, interior dimensions come in nearest to a Chevy Avalanche, but with width at hips (determining seat width) being comparable to a Toyota Tacoma - which explains the lack of 6th seat, but also portends a rather narrow rear seat that is "5 passengers" in name along the lines of a Tacoma (though CT's better shoulder width will help a touch).

View attachment 28392

Next is a heat map that essentially demonstrates the design thesis of the Cybertruck:

  • *nearly* full-sized BEV truck cargo area,
  • *nearly* mid-sized footprint/agility (but an ~F150 wheelbase, mitigated by 4WS)
  • somewhat *better* than mid-sized interior volume, at least in terms of rear seat legroom, but basically mid-sized seat width

View attachment 28395
Obviously no way to verify at this stage but these numbers look legit to the eyeball test. Lower rear seat headroom for one and the longer wheelbase than R1T but smaller length than a full sizer rings true.

smaller battery pack and lower trim level models. Remember every ounce of weight decreases payload. More range, more tech, more goodies = less hauling capability.
No, large and max pack batteries weigh the exact same basically. Only difference is wheels and reinforced underbody which weighs 150 lbs

nah man, you’re staring a single config, and it’s the absolute max config (requiring smallest everything)

And in any event glosses over the other two/payload rating effects of other options, tire or wheel selections, etc.

and regardless, tot ye extent you “got me” it’s to the tune of moving from an untenable 220lb payload to ~600lb payload headroom.

which btw is why the lightning puts its toe max at only 10K lbs, when it reaches it’s lowest payload headroom.

Options weights (based on late '22 and early '23 Quad/Large configs):
20" spare + jack = 95 lbs
21" spare + jack? = 80 lbs (calc from above is 80 lbs, but R website lists it as 79 lbs)
22" spare + jack = 83 lbs (from Rivian's website; no definitive calc yet)
skid plate = 140 lbs
tonneau = 0 72 lbs (seems they HAVE NOT included the removal of the powered tonneau in payload rating, at least for recent trucks, late 2022)
Update Mar 13/23: based on post 33 from today, it appears that they are now accounting for removal of the tonneau in the payload sticker, and that the tonneau assembly is approx. 90 lbs.
Update Sep 8/23: based on my post from today, the math looks more like 72 lbs for the powered tonneau for my May 2023 build. I calculated against two different trucks and it lines up.

11k is right on par with the ICE competition. No complaints at all on that number.

It's easy to armchair criticize a lot of things, but I would not bet against Tesla doing decent use case testing with design review inputs from team members. In all designs certain compromises are made, but that's expected.

Of course, if something major or obvious gets missed we'll know it eventually but I'm going to wait until I see it in person before sounding concerns that I can't verify.

Sure, you can always add extra weight, eg rooftop tent and that’ll add to the payload.

My point is that if you want to only look at the lowest payload, you’ll fight against yourself. R1T can accommodate a 1764 lb payload

CT might also face the exact issues. And of course, if you want to tow with more payload, getting a F250+ is the way to go
