Is an automotive glass supposed to shatter?
Most side windows are made of Tempered Glass and shatter for safety reasons. Windshields do not, however. Windshields are normally made of laminated glass. Laminated glass is stronger and is more shatter resistant. Its design keeps the glass together in case of impact, so the shards aren't a danger to passengers.

But the CT was referring to the side windows

Yes, and maybe the front windshield, we don't know for sure which windows might have what type of glass.

I was just pointing out that automotive glass is not universally supposed to shatter.

It should be noted you can also get cars that use laminated glass for the side windows instead of tempered. I believe Tesla has been moving in that direction in general.

We are hoping that the glass for the Cybertruck is a special glass like ALON and not just regular Tesla laminated glass.

The 11,000 lbs of towing capacity is what we kinda of expected.

2,500 lbs of payload is also in the area of what we expected.

A swing and a miss… 14k towing is the minimum I could accept on my trimotor preorders. Looks like I’ll be staying ICE if that’s true.
Yeah, few people regurgitating that this is on par with EV vehicles. That’s entirely beside the point of the the announced cybertruck which was supposed to be competing with ICE to offset the market.

If this turns out to be a truck that’s main feature is that it looks peculiar but with no advantage to the design and performs similar to companies offerings that have nowhere near the EV resources as Tesla, then this is going to be a massive flop for “truck buyers.” This doesn’t include people making the purchase to have a truck shaped vehicle

The CyberTruck is going to be a great vehicle - for what it is.

However, it is not perfect for every use case.

F250 and GM and Ram 2500 (and 3500s) and going to be better for a number of use cases.

The Cybertruck should be compared to the F150.

Need to tow? Have a diesel with a 35 galloon tank? Have a Ram 2500 or dualie? Those are probably better to stick with.

The Dual was supposed to have 10k and that flyer says 11k, it could be that it's the Dual and the Tri hasn't announced yet.

The glass has always been shatter resistant, bulletproof is the real question. Looks like the passenger would have been hit with glass shards, and that past 2019 ball batting stunt. Now in 2023 with that 45 Tommy-gun probably would have messed up the drivers day if the windows are same shatter resistant as before?!

people here are so often talking about how often they tow so large and heavy, and all I can think is “sounds like you maybe shouldn’t be driving a 1/2 ton truck”

The Cybertruck should be compared to the F150.
To be fair, the 2019-described Tri motor appears to suggest Tesla was encroaching on 3/4 ton territory, with 3,500 payload and 14K towing, air suspension.

To be fair-fair to Tesla, people here are assuming that what is being released on Nov 30 is the only thing Tesla will ever release.

Which amounts to basically saying “if Tesla doesn’t release everything all at once, it’s quits for me”

Any brief review of Tesla history would suggest that it was maybe unreasonable to expect Tesla to release everything all at once.

Not saying Tesla is going to have an “HD” version, or anytime soon - I don’t know. It’s what will be most interesting to listen for on Nov 30

Fingers crossed, i’ve already waited this long. What’s a little longer.

I am glad I broke down and bought a new diesel 1 ton a couple years back instead of waiting though. I would be ticked if I had waited all this time and was forced to buy something else in this market, because the cyber truck fell short.

So far all of my “Elon pre-orders” have come up years late and miles short. Looking at you Starlink…
