This happened to me last week after an hour drive on a redlight. I was able to move to safe location, got out of the truck, waited for 10 mins and drove back 70 miles to Service Center. The technician thinks ot maybe firmware bug they decided to keep the truck and gave me a loaner.

it has been a week and I haven’t heard back from them yet, i am assuming it is part related and they don’t have the part in hand.

while enjoying my 2024 model s loaner with fsd, i am still hoping to get my truck back soon.

posting this for awareness.

Between this and the recently-posted Edmonds video, I'm hesitant to plan my 500 mile road trip.
Irrational or uncontrolled fear is a terrible thing. But there are professionals that can help you. Being under the spell of such a dark cloud of irrational fear is no way to live.

This just happened to my Beast this evening. Critical Issue, pull over. Once I pulled over, it wouldn’t shift out of park. Roadside assistance sent me Uber credits to get home and it’s still waiting there for a tow. About 4,000 miles on it. Built in June (17xxx VIN).

I’ve never had a vehicle fail so catastrophically and so suddenly. I’m fortunate I wasn’t driving in an unsafe location.

Fewer parts in an EV mean when something breaks, it tends to be important and make it all stop.

Beyond that, the thing is a computer that can command all stop when it detects liability to Tesla. So... They have a bias to choosing that instead of letting you continue on.

So sorry to hear, mine is still at service center, they are still investigating and it has been 2 weeks.
CT being my 3rd Tesla, I understand the complications of being a new technology as well but of course paying for a vehicle 120k and after 4k miles huge failure is not what we expected.
I know for sure Tesla engineers will find the issue, fix it and replace any part that is causing this but it is absolutely annoying to spend so much money on a vehicle that sits in the service center.

i have been in communication with service center constantly and they are updating me every a few days. Also have a loaner.
You should get a loaner or request one, lets keep comments here so we can see what is going on and maybe it’ll help our technicians to find answers quickly.

Agreed, Tesla is the safest car on earth, i rather car tell me to get out. I am sure they’ll get to bottom of it and fix it. Its just so new, they haven’t seen all the errors yet like their other models.

Will do. I can’t request a loaner until Monday when the service center opens. It’s going to be a heck of an Uber bill for them to get me there since the service center is two hours away.

Fewer parts also means fewer defect opportunities so EVs should be more reliable, all other things being equal. Those “other things” include sufficient engineering and testing which I suspect are lacking here given the push to get the product to market.

This is my fourth EV and second Tesla. Until now, I haven’t had any major problems with any of them (well, except the recurring front axle half shaft problems on my Model X - also the result of insufficient engineering and testing).

If I’m not satisfied with the explanation of the failure and that the repair significantly reduces the likelihood of recurrence, I will be asking for a buy-back and will wait for the issues to get worked out before I jump back into the CT game.

I don't know. It's only irrational if it's unfounded. I think it's pretty reasonable to raise an eyebrow at these reports. We all know we're the "foundation" test subjects, and it seems that there's definitely a small percentage of the trucks that are having component/assembly problems. I'd prefer to believe my truck will be 100% reliable, but I don't ...yet. I'm only 1000 miles in.

Yeah mine is less than 3k, i was planning a big trip from FL to TX to go see SpaceX for my 50th, now i am thinking about it. I hope of Tesla confidently solves the problem and releases my truck from service center, i’ll be thinking to do it or not.

No vehicle is 100% reliable. It looks like you missed the point.
