man, that windmill has seen better days ?
Yes sir it has lol. When I bought the land it was totally overgrown (as in 100ft trees over grown) and we had no idea that windmill and hand dug well was on property. Took me a while to figure it out but it is a Fairbanks Morse Steel Eclipse model that dated to around 1934 if I recall correctly. I would love to restore but doubtful I could ever track down the parts. I left it as yard art next to weekend cabin I built.

I am in disbelief right now. Is this true ?

https://www.torquenews.com/11826/te...e-vertical-loads-model-y-no-more-160-lbs-or-2

"The hitch receiver is designed to support vertical loads up to 160 lb (72 kg) "

This would help explain all the issues others have had towing stuff.

I have a trip in December to take our ATV to the park. I'm now worried about towing anything?A 'MAX' of 160 pounds sounds insane. I could step on the top of the trailer and break it, based on these numbers.

Is this number perhaps wrong?

I agree 160lbs for cargo/ bike carrier seems way too low when compared to compeition.

Tesla is NOT only vehicle manufacturer that specifies a different maximum
weight for hitch mounted cargo/bike/mobility carriers than what is specified for trailer tongue weight.

Some vehicle manufacturers say cargo/bike/mobility carrier weight + load in carrier should NOT exceed 50% of vehicle's maximum tongue weight limit. (See many GMC/Chevrolet/Cadillac vehicle manuals). Maximum for 227 kg (500 lb) for cargo/bike/mobility carrier weight + load in carrier.

Toyota claims some of it vehicles (including vans, SUVs) can support hitch mounted cargo carrier / bike carrier / mobility scooter / motorcycle carrier loads limits from 350lbs to some as high as 800lbs.

Maximum Trailer Tongue Weight Rating

....
Do not exceed the maximum allowable tongue weight for your vehicle. Use the shortest hitch extension available to position the hitch ball closer to your vehicle. This will help reduce the effect of the trailer tongue weight on the trailer hitch and the rear axle.

If a cargo carrier is used in the trailer hitch receiver, choose a carrier that positions the load as close to the vehicle as possible.

Make sure the total weight, including the carrier, is no more than half of the maximum allowable tongue weight for the vehicle or 227 kg (500 lb), whichever is less.

Toyota Mobility Solutions - Hitch Load Guidelines
https://stage-cdn.tm.aemsites.toyota.com/hitch-load-guidelines

Mobility equipment dealers offer scooter and hitch load wheelchair carriers designed to mount on tow hitches. Although towing hitches are designed to carry and pull items, vehicles have limitations on the load that can be applied to the hitch.

Maximum Tongue Weight is the maximum amount of weight that can be applied vertically to a tow hitch. Mobility equipment that mounts to a tow hitch applies weight vertically to the hitch. In general, the maximum tongue weight is calculated as 10% of the vehicle's towing capacity rating. The towing capacity values for Toyota vehicles are based on using a genuine Toyota towing hitch and can be found in the Toyota Owner's Manual.

Confirm the weight of the mobility equipment being installed. Ask the mobility equipment dealer for product weight information for both carrier and scooter. The total weight of the equipment should not exceed the maximum tongue weight of the vehicle.

* Do not overload. Maximum capacity is 350 lbs. on a hitch receiver with maximum tongue weight rating of 500 lbs. Maximum capacity is 400 lbs. on a hitch receiver with maximum tongue weight rating of 750 lbs. See chart below

Do not exceed the tongue weight limit for your vehicle or the tongue weight limit for your hitch receiver.
These may be two different figures. It is your responsibility to ensure that your hitch receiver tongue weight limit is equal to or less than the limit for the vehicle. This should have been determined at the time the hitch receiver was installed.

To determine the maximum weight capacity of your Hitch Mounted Motorcycle Carrier, see the chart below:

Rebuild it yourself for a super fun project. Fabrication isn't that hard.

I need Tesla to clarify if 160lbs really is the vertical load limit. Can anyone help me? Just to put it into perspective of what I’m dealing with, if the Cybertruck does have a vertical load limit of only 160lbs and I can’t haul bikes off the hitch, then I would have to cancel my camper ($24,000) and range extender ($16,000) so this is a $40,000 question for me lol @greggertruck any chance you could help me get to the bottom of this? I just need to know if this is accurate or copy/paste from model Y owners manual.

This question was raised by me, I’m the one quoted in the article, this is my use case. My question is, why can I do this on every other pickup truck except the cybertruck?

This does not seem to be a veritcal load as it is described in the owner's manual

How would it not be?

Neither of these seem to actually answer the question. Is it FUD or not that that Cybertruck manual states a carrier load limit of 1/3 of the Silverado?

-Crissa
Honestly don’t think the question will ever be answered. Majority of owners/fans don’t get it or don’t care. Tesla has no incentive to address this. It’s only a few of us who use our trucks as trucks and who question what the manual says.

Even most people who use trucks as trucks don't tow or use a cargo shelf more than a bicycle.

I was hoping to put my Zero on a platform, so... this is interesting to me.

This is not just a recreation issue. Need minimum of 350 lbs to support mobility & accessibility devices and thier cargo carriers.

Certainly some people (passengers but could be drivers) need powered wheelchairs or mobility scooters and a hitch mounted cargo carrier on back of their street-legal vehicle. U.S. population has increasing share of older people.

After waiting total 6-8 years for non-Foundation series affordable Cybertruck even some 2019 Cybertruck reservation holders might need theses devices.

With coming FSD for Cybertruck, there will be even more reason that Cybertruck needs to support this accessibility.

Many competitor vehicles support minimum of 350 lbs for hitch mounted cargo carrier:
Many models of Toyota mid/full-size SUVs and full-size Tundra pickup truck
GMC/Chevrolet 1500 series (or higher) SUVs and full-size pickup truck
Some Cadillac SUVs
Ford F-150

Also for what it’s worth…The BW 5” drop stow & go hitch fits awesome on our trucks. In the receiver it folds back to stow perfectly. Pricey, but best looking and quality I could find that would fit exactly.
