This has been rumored for a while but cat is pretty much out of the bag now.
Youtubers with 340 mile range cybertrucks are complaining already.

Good news for people who want to use Cybertruck as a work truck, haul things, or not have to charge contstantly.
Battery pack size can be doubled, found by Sandy, CONFIRMED by Wes.

GREAT news for CT reservation holders and STOCKHOLDERS!

Range extender likely the planned bandaid for the early Foundation Series trucks.

FINALLY some good news on the CT for everyone, unless you are a Tesla hater then sorry.

I’m having mixed feelings - happy and sad! Was Tesla testing the waters on how much people are willing to pay? That’s the only reason I can think off for leaving more room to add additional batteries. No way I’m paying more than 120K for getting extra range!!

I think they played it really smart.
The first 5,000 trucks are going to go to celebrities and Tesla superfans, all willing to pay a significant markup to be "First" Having half the battery pack removed allows them to make a great margin and show the capability of the truck and they KNEW the range was going to be an issue, but had a fix for it in the works.

I was REALLY disappointed with the released stats. But this is the reason all the split pack charging stuff has not worked, the pack is only in one piece with the other half coming later. People who are not Kim Kardashian need the extra range, especially for towing, and this allows Kim to get her "First" truck and the guy who works for a living and tows a trailer to get one.

I think you're going to be disappointed if you think non-FS Cybertrucks are going to come with additional batteries. I don't think we'll be seeing Cybertrucks with bigger battery packs/more range any time soon.

Why do I have a feeling that this is an April Fools getting around slowly.

I can understand that Tesla might hold back on a double-stacked HV pack until the 4680 ramp is further along.

But then why the dog-and-pony show of the "Range Extender"?

Built in the space for it, and Wes confirmed it was "half full" other. Not going to get much more confirmation than that out of Tesla, but it is coming.

This is S-tier, highly refined hopium if I’ve ever huffed it. IF there really is all that headroom and space, at best I think they take the opportunity for a plaid/quad-motor trim with a higher capacity than 123 KWh pack. Definitely for more money than even a Foundation Series CB selling right now. Hopefully. Now I’m on the copium.

Well, I figured they'd have a 500+ mile range in 2-3 years and this all but confirms it... maybe even sooner. Great news.

So, I'll just deal with my 340 miles (once I get it hopefully this month) for a while and at some point a Tri motor with 500+ will cost the same or less than the 100K we're all spending now for AWD.

My guess, the dog and pony show is just for market analysis. Trying to determine the demand for the increased range and what people will pay.

Exactly!! I wonder whether we can add extra batteries in that space for FS models as well. Thank god I made two reservations. It’s high time Tesla goes on record to say what is possible and not possible in that space instead of give half-full BS response, and huge thanks to Sandy for uncovering this.

Be careful what you ask for. Current generation batteries are heavy AF. If you put in too many you end up with this 4.5 ton monster.

Then everyone will start complaining about charging times, tire wear, suspension issues and more. I'm all for adding lightness for those of us who don't need the extra mass and capacity.

BTW, this discovery might imply that the "range extender" option does NOT mount in the truck bed. Maybe, just maybe, it will mount into the existing extra space and Tesla wasn't ready to give this tidbit away.

While it may appear to be extra space, it might be a be ventilation channel. It is needed to divert gases away from occupant's should the batteries combust and the article is just click bait.
