The tax CREDIT for the 2021 tax year (not a deductible) for placing an electric vehicle charger (wall connector) in service at your main home (personal use property) is generally the smaller of 30% of the cost of the charger and installation cost or $1,000. That is the total cost of the charger and the wiring involved, including any work done by an electrician to connect everything.
Use IRS Form 8911 to claim the credit.
In my case I got a $131 tax credit for the purchase and installation of my Gen 3 wall connector for my Model Y. Those of you in areas with high priced labor might get more. This credit for 2021 tax year might be the last unless renewed by Congress.
