The next time I get excited about the CT will be when I get THAT email! At my age-77- the clock is working against me.
My dad felt that way at 77. If it’s any consolation, he’s 88 now, still physically and mentally with it, still driving, and still likes to talk tech with me. Hopefully you have lots of time to enjoy your CT.

Model Y production is ramping as we speak. not sure how that counts as being delayed?
And no, CT delays are not due to design changes. That would imply the factory is ready to go just waiting on the design team.

Journalism these days...
electrek and teslarati are not much more than cybertruckownersclub members posting their thoughts on what is discussed here. Hardly a legitimate argument to tarnish all journalists with them as the example.

Maybe not a good idea to give competitors a year to copy the CT design.
The way traditional truck culture has been hating on the CT, I doubt any competitors have the backbone to copy the CT design. And 1 year is seriously too short to line up the necessary elements to even begin to copy the design (gigapress, a supply of SS, folding machines for SS, and the special glass...).

But hey, we'll see if a few years after the CT is out and proven to be popular if any competitors decide to copy it. Well, first we will need to see if any competitors are still in business at that point. Short of the Chinese auto manufacturers, I have a hard time seeing who else will still be around.

The one thing we know about Elon is that he does not make his commitments and gets distracted easily.
Citation not included.

C'mon, the only thing he's missing is level 5 autonomy and that he's never made a commitment for. Landing rockets, falcon doors, 2sec Plaid, they've done it.

Also heard the "design is locked" statement before.. prior to it being unlocked. ;)
He said major engineering is locked. Design is the parts they buy from suppliers. Engineering is the stuff you use to select the parts.

What is the need to protect ones place in the queue? Honest question, I'm very low that's why I ask.

Cheers!
Watch your email and be ready with cash or loan guarantee when your batch comes up. People will be able to hop ahead if they fill out the forms faster.

And be willing to take whatever model they're producing.

True.

And how many deliveries happen by December 2023 is a factor. Maybe it will only be a small batch...say 25,000-30,000.

And maybe 150,000 deliveries in 2024.

So unless you are in the top 200,000, you are waiting until 2025.
Indeed. Which is why is why me and my 500,000+ reservation will be picking up a Ford Lightning in 2023. Looking for a gap EV truck.

https://electrek.co/2022/06/22/tesla-cybertruck-design-locked-new-timeline/

After several revisions, Elon Musk says that the final Tesla Cybertruck design is “finally locked,” and he updated the timeline to production for mid-2023.

When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck back in 2019, Tesla said that the electric pickup truck would make it to market by the end of 2021. As the deadline was approaching, the automaker confirmed that production slipped to 2022.

CEO Elon Musk later said that Tesla was targeting a start of production for the electric pickup truck in “late 2022” at Gigafactory Texas. With the focus clearly on bringing the Model Y to production at the factory, and that being delayed as well, it appeared likely that the Cybertruck production timeline could also slip.

In March 2022, it was confirmed that Tesla aims to complete Cybertruck development this year for production in 2023.

A significant part of the delay has been attributed to Tesla updating the design of the Cybertruck on several occasions and until now, it was known if the automaker had finally settled on the final design.

During a new interview with the Tesla Owners Club of Silicon Valley, Musk confirmed that the Cybertruck design is now “locked”:

We need to get on that [getting the Cybertruck to production]. At least, the design is finally locked. We got too carried away [with design updates].

Musk has previously disclosed that Tesla added rear-wheel-steering to the Cybertruck and made several slight design changes.

However, the CEO added that regardless of the design revisions, Tesla wouldn’t have been able to bring the electric pickup truck to volume production either way because of the chip shortage. During the interview, Musk updated the production timeline for the Cybertruck to now “mid-2023.”

Earlier this year, new Cybertruck prototypes were spotted being tested by Tesla as well as being used for promotion at events.

i just take this as “delayed another 6 months or more”

I have a Cybertruck reservation, and a Rivian and a Lightning reservation. I might be getting the Rivian this fall, or the Lightning this fall. Not waiting for the Cybertruck anymore....when it comes in, I can always trade my Rivian/Lightning in on the Cybertruck. But it clearly is at least 2 years away. Maybe 2 1/2-3 years.

I assume the 2024 production run will be all Quads. Even though I reserved a TriMotor in November 2019, it was not the first day, so I figure I won't hear anything until early 2025. I will take a Quad - i.e. long range. I won't take a 300 mile Cybertruck. I would continue to wait.

Given the fact that there is an additional model in the mix (quad motor)... your choice at time of reservation is meaningless. Its only logical to assume the reservation order (possibly limited by location) will define when you get the option to finalize order, which effectively throws everyone back into a realistic list while also allows everyone to re-evaluate their desired model choice now that there is an additional model that didn't exist when most of us chose at time of reservation.

I don't subscribe to this prevalent theory on here that your model choice at reservation defines your delivery order. Because if it did, implementing a new model after a huge amount of reservations have been made already, kinda breaks that system.

I would think it would be Dual motor. Less batteries which are their biggest constraint. Look at the ramp in Texas.
