This pretty much deletes the ship time lead Ford had.

Sucks for those hoping to get an F-150.

Almost certain now that Tesla will ship more electric trucks in 2022 than Ford… well unless Tesla delays again. ROFL.

PS: Their “order banks” open up in January though which means I guess people are finalizing their orders 9 months out from their delivery? Seems weird.

@Diehard Don’t you have an F-150 on order?
Yup, and a Rivian too. This may be just for fleets. But even if it is a delay for retail customer, It is name of the game. They already delayed order timeline. For me it is not as much issue of start of production as it is rate of it and my place in line that makes a difference. All 3 are unknown as of now. Rivian is supposed to make up a delivery window by end of the month for me. It looks like Rivian and Lightning will be neck and neck in 23 and CT around 25. My spot CT 700,000 - Rivian 45,000 - Ford 20,000

You should have switched that around… been 20,000 Cybertruck and 700,000 on the F-150.

I wonder if Tesla will take a Lightning trade-in
I am counting on it but even if they don’t, and knowing a better Lightning is around the corner, I still think there should be no problem selling it.

Right now it looks like the Lightning will be easy to resell. Maybe even turn a profit. Likewise the Rivian. Personally, I’d kind of hold out of the Rivian, but as we get closer we’ll know more about both and it’ll be easier to decide.

Buy the first one out… if you can resell for a profit or you don’t like it, sell it and get the next one. Then sell that one when they Cybertruck comes out.

Sounds like a plan especially if Tax credits are in play.

F150 has a cult, you can always sell and going from Pro to CT2 would feel like a big upgrade for not much money but R1S to CT2 may be more difficult. I would be trading more interior space and something my wife can park and drive for a bigger CT. In addition selling R1S may have more of a loss associated with it than F150 because the brand is still risky and the low order numbers mean there will always be a new one people can buy so a used one won't be as in demand. We will see.

Since Rivian will be making about 6000 vehicles a year and Ford a little more, you'll get your CT first.

I am totally cool with that. That would save a lot of buying and selling.

p.s. We are not even sure about that 6000. So far it all seems like Employee gift/exchange/….. No evidence of common man sales yet.

An clean sheet of paper F150 arrives in 2025. It will ride on a dedicated Ford electric platform.

I see this plan failing. When you go to sell the Rivian or Lighting I'm guessing a family member (husband/wife/child) will say, "Well... How about we keep the Rivian/Lightning for me and you get the CT". The plan originally is designed to keep you from losing to much money while having the latest truck. Depending on the market you might even make money. But in reality, it has a greater possibility of costing you twice the amount of an electric pickup.

Could make some good YouTube videos comparing them then.

This brings up a third strategy. You buy the second one before selling the first and keep them for a little bit to figure out which you like better. Likewise the 2nd and 3rd.

Of course incentives would play havoc with all of that. Used prices on the 2nd truck might not be very high when your Cybertruck arrives.
