I lived in Minot, North Dakota for four years. Parked my F350 outside. Never had to scrape windows. I bought a 200 Watt MyHeat heater (feels like someone exhaling, it's so low power).
I don't know how things would go in ND in January but in the milder winters of the mid Atlantic region Tesla's climate control system gets the interior toasty warm in a few minutes it is easy to turn it on remotely and though it may be pullung 2 kW from your battery you will in total use perhaps a quarter of a kWh. Of course if you are plugged into shore power overnight that doesn't matter as the quarter kWh comes from it rather than the battery. This isn't going to melt snow off the toneau.

Let me introduce you to the much more economical solution. I call it a snow brush, but most stores call this model a push broom. You can store it easily in the vault and bonus, you can also use it to sweep the floor of the garage you no longer park in and probably use as a wood working shop. :)

I keep one next to my parking spot all winter long. I look forward to being able to keep one in the vault so I have it wherever I am. (full sized models don't fit well in my Grand Cherokee)
Same. I use this at home and keep a smaller one in the car in case it snows while I'm at work.

Most of that stuff is already taken care of by the climate control on the Tesla. Warms the cabin up prior to entry which should melt any snow off the windows. It's just the hood and any snow on top of the vault which needs to be cleared.

And yes, people absolutely must to clean the snow off the vault/ roof of your car/ truck/ whatever. Massive chunks of snow flying off trucks is a major traffic hazard.
During our Canadian winters I've only ever had to bash the model 3/y door handles a few times, 99% of the time ice hasn't been an issue.

I can't imagine the battery consumption it would take to melt the snow off the top of the truck, seems very wasteful for what is supposed to be an efficient vehicle.

It takes a ton of energy to melt a ton of ice in a day. A ton is 12,000 BTU/H which is 12000/3412 = 3.517 kW. Thus it would take 84 kWh of battery to melt a ton of ice.
Don't need to melt all the snow or ice. Just melt enough so the rest slides off. There are not any horizontally flat surfaces to deal with. A little melt to lubricate and let the rest slide off.

Oh, butterscotch. This is one very old thread.

We complain when someone starts a new thread on a topic we've already discussed. And we complain if the old thread gets dredged up from the cannon of old. How are new people supposed to win?

They're not. That's what they get for being late to the party!

Wasn’t really a complaint. I seriously doubt you’ll see me proper complaining about either approach.

I do find it weird when people find an ancient thread and reply to me though. Often in the 2+ years between posts thing have changed.

For example, in 2021 we hadn’t established the chicken as the standard unit for measuring the truck.

How long do you think it will be till Elon starts joking about the chicken standard unit? it would be just like him to publish CT sizes in the chicken standard on Twitter.

I live in the northwestern PA with my truck is always parked outside and this thought has never crossed my mind. What function would that serve? Just curious.

(Now I see some benefit for a heater for the door (and/or handle), but the whole body?)
waste of energy !!!!!
