There has been a lot of discussions about people wanting the "500 mile" 2019 CT for towing.

Cybertruck withOUT towing ~250+ miles of range ** currently ~250 kW fast charging
Silverado EV WITH towing ~250 miles of range ** 350-370 kW fast charging (port driver rear!)

It looks like the Silverado EV WT4 (used market for those and future RST) really have a lot of *smarts* and integration for towing. ie. real towing design engineers. [** Sierra EV Denali for higher end comforts/interior]

Example of towing design: separate adaptive cruise (keep distance) designed when in towing mode (ie. stopping distance; separate physical trailer manual brake that is *variable* like the older under dash version (apparently CT and Rivian are none->max and not variable.

It sure seems like people will consider one of these instead.

For sure! If they ever make them available to the public (they aren’t doing great yet), and if they can make them to scale (not likely for a long ways out), and if they can produce them at a price that is competitive (not without losing a lot on each)… BUT that doesn’t mean it’s a bad truck and in fact the best EV truck for towing (*not on the market unless it’s fleet)… just wanted to make sure context is added

Yea but will Chevy make any of them?
It is a far superior work truck for the money, but I believe they will be selling them at a loss.

They look ugly compared to the CT, the CT has 400x more cool factor. But the Silverado is without question 2x the work truck, easily measurable, 2x the truck for the same price if it makes it to the consumer market.

Personally I want a big shiny sports car and the CT fits that for me just fine.
For a work truck for my guys the Silverado is the clear winner if they make them.

Switch? Yes.

As a former Canyon owner, former Silverado owner, current F150 owner with CT Foundation Series order invite, RAM EV/RAM Charger reservation, Silverado RST First Edition and regular RST/WT reservations that NEEDS to tow....Silverado EV all day.

Range, four wheel steer, air suspension, mid-gate, Super Cruise while towing, bigger frunk, only 5K more....Silverado EV every day.

I received invitation to order the First Edition (only in white or black) on 3/11. Will wait for regular RST order invitation.

Another important video about towing amongst the various models:

TL;DW : Silverado went Denver to Grand Junction nonstop while towing a model 3 (against headwind in the latter half), and nonstop (through a snow storm in parts of) the way back.

GM has all sorts of hardware and software issues for years with the Ultium rollout/scale-up.

I test drove a Hummer EV SUV this past weekend since I had some time and interest and it's a heavy beast. Looks amazing but you can tell you're sitting atop a good 18-20 vertical inches of batteries and the lumbering oaf is wildly underbraked to the point of being dangerous. Don't ask about the software, it's a horrific hodge-podge that seems to have been developed by 17 teams that never spoke to one another and just layered on different UI constructs in every set of screens and functions - and the software is slow AF. And that's sitting new in the showroom! I can't imagine how that software will run in 3-5 years. Why am I bringing up the Hummer? Because in GM-land this is as good as it gets for EV's. It's their all-in, halo, vehicle for EV transformation. And it needs a heck of a lot of work in terms of hardware/software/sensor integration, more compute, serious rewrite of the UI after a UX overhaul and all that's based on just 20-30 minutes with the monster.

Don't get me wrong, I love the army-truck vibe and looks, but I don't trust the machine. So big specs are great for towing optics, so maybe GM's crack software engineers were all deployed on the Silverado instead....

I had an early reservation for the RST but canceled it when I was able to place my Cybertruck order in January. 1) I cant get past the Avalanche look. Why would they do that?
2) Keeping my ICE F150 for long range towing. 3)The Cybertruck will tow my camper to the lake just fine. (~60 miles one way).

1. CT tows as good or better so long as your destination is < 100mi.
2. Can't buy it.
3. Monitor looks like someone got it from AliExpress in 2016.

I agree with your premise reworded - if long-distance towing in the least time possible is your main goal, the WT4 is your ideal choice! And I wouldn't disagree, credit where credit is due, they knocked it out of the park for that. But just because I tow A LOT doesn't mean CT isn't a better vehicle. For delivering equipment up to 5 tons a few times a week within ~60 miles it's perfect, especially with all the attention the company logo gets.

Yes, they could prove me wrong and actually make more than a few thousand, which I think would be great! I want more good choices when I buy my next truck. I hope it pressures Telsa to give us 500mi CT sooner than later! Not sure what the pic was for... yes GM uses real buttons and they have not one but TWO crappy screens lol... too busy for me, but to each their own!
