Have you had a PCS failure? How do you usually charge?

I'm wondering if higher ac charge rates are linked to higher rates of PCS failure. Do most people charge at 240V 48A?

I typically charge off solar at 240V 20A so that some of what my panels make goes into my powerwall instead of dumping everything into my truck. No indication of PCS failure for me yet at 22k miles.

I charge 99% of the time via 120v and supercharger some with 18,000 on a 2024. The only reasons I knew my PCS failed is because free supercharging was added to my account after a service visit. To test my theory I charged at a buddies house at a higher amp and was had restricted charging.

I was under the impression higher AC rated caused the failure but here I am.

Seems like those that have reported it have been using a wall charger at 48A. I'm not sure if people are seeing the problem crop up with the mobile connector at 32A or 12A on 110 volts.

I always charged at 24amp - still had issue, but didn’t realize it till I went charge at 42amp one night and got the charging failed alert. Messaged SC and they said it’s PCS.

My understanding is that there are two 24 amp charging circuits but I don't know if it's set up so one circuit has to be fully used before the second takes any load or if they always share the load. If it's the former then charging at 24 could be just as hard on it as 48 amps .

I would think that if Tesla saw all these failings and a temp fix was to change amps until they figure it out, it would have been suggested a while ago. Personally I click my heels together twice before plugging in. Solves everything.

As a token of pain. It took what 4 years to figure out the Tesla Model S eyebrow LED failing on the headlights? Letters and letters of next rev parts. G,H,I,J.....

My rate of 32 amps is not listed, but that is where I charge, overnight. When my rate throttled back to 24 with everything set at 32 we thought it was the WC. Tesla even sent me a new WC for free. But when I installed the new unit and we were still throttled to 24 we figure out the issue was a PCS and not the WC. BUT, so far so good with 24 amps, as I can manage that, as a rule.

I would have made the split between 25amps and up, and 24amps and lower.

🤷‍♂️ I mean it wouldn't be the first time a big company has missed an obvious solution.

This is probably the fourth poll and maybe the 100th time that somebody has suggested what you suggested. There's always somebody in the room that says your thoughts. Thanks for them.

The post #2 right below the original post: 120V.

I first charged with mobile connector 32A at first, 48A after since Powershared installed and 40A when visiting my sisters' houses. No problem yet with my FS AWD Apr 2024 VIN 4xxx just passed 15,000 miles.
